My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 791

After Tristan Davis left, Emily Blair reached for her phone on the nightstand. The battery was fully charged—Tristan must have plugged it in while she was sleeping.

The moment she unlocked her phone, she was greeted by a barrage of notifications, most of them work-related.

Propping herself against the headboard, Emily began replying to messages, her attention focused on the screen. The door creaked open and someone stepped inside.

She glanced up, surprised. “Back so soon?”

Emily set her phone aside, half amused, half exasperated. “You two really are in sync. Tristan just apologized to me for the same thing, and now here you are, doing it too.”

Jesse scratched his head, looking lost. “Really…?”

Her tone was gentle but firm. “There’s nothing to apologize for. It wasn’t your fault. Even if you hadn’t left, they would’ve found another opportunity. You can’t follow me every second of every day, can you?”

Jesse still looked troubled, eyes downcast. “I just… I left because I was hungry. If I hadn’t—”
