Chapter 27
“Not yet. I think there’s more drama coming,” the other replied. “If we blow our cover now, it’s not worth it. Let’s wait.“]
Vivian still didn’t understand the entertainment industry. The publicly announced recording equipment never matched the actual number.
There were always paparazzi, secret recordings, and leaked sales. Otherwise, where would all the gossip come from?]
And the stories that got out were just a fraction–most were bought and buried.[]
Backstage at the staging area:]
“Last performer’s almost done. Elena, get ready.“]]
Following the stage manager’s directions, Amelia stepped onto the stage.[]
Nathan had already left his seat. He didn’t usually attend these events anyway. He’d only come to see Vivian’s performance.[]
With that done, it was time to leave.[]
But after just a few steps, the third contestant took the stage.]]
Nathan glanced over.
“Now performing is Elena with ‘Yesterday Once More‘…“]]
Following the host’s introduction, Nathan remembered this was the kept woman Vivian had mentioned–Louie’s sugar baby.[]
For some reason, Nathan stopped instinctively and looked toward the stage.
He’d heard many people mention this mysterious masked woman today, but this was his first time actually seeing her perform.]
She stood on stage holding the microphone lightly, her melodious voice flowing with storytelling depth and a unique style that immediately captured everyone’s attention after just a few notes.

The previously noisy studio fell completely silent as countless people listened intently to the woman’s singing.[]
Nathan frowned slightly. Something about this style felt familiar.]
Then he remembered–it resembled Amelia’s style somewhat.[]
But it was different too.
“Elena’s” style was more mature than Amelia’s, with heavier storytelling elements. Especially that hint of melancholy and detached indifference from experiencing life’s changes–it gripped your heart.[]
The feeling wasn’t heavy, just a taste, like smoke that could wrap around you tightly with lingering effects.
Nathan looked carefully at the masked woman on stage in her burning rose performance costume.[]
Both the costume style and body shape were different from Amelia’s.]
It wasn’t her.
As the performance continued, the singing evolved from gentle humming into spiraling, interweaving intensity, building upward until it seemed to break through ice. With the woman’s soaring vocals, the song reached its climax.
Flames erupted around the stage. The lighting shifted, and after a brief darkness, a spotlight illuminated the woman at center stage holding a violin.[]
Flower petals fell beneath the violin as she moved, producing intense, sorrowful yet elegant violin music.[]

The spotlight focused on her as her burning rose costume partially faded, and the changing lights revealed all the bruises her makeup had previously concealed.
One connected to another, shocking against her pale skin.[]
The joint areas showed particularly obvious injuries.[]
She was clearly severely hurt.[]
Those injuries, combined with her current performance, created a kind of near–death beauty.[]
But the surrounding flames gave her a sense of redemption, as if reborn from fire.]
The woman played violin in her red dress, thin and breathtakingly beautiful on that stage.[]
As the violin built to its crescendo, everyone’s attention focused on her.[]
A phoenix rose.
That was the consensus of everyone present.]

When the flames died and the music stopped, the audience hadn’t yet recovered from the shock.
Amelia slowly lowered her violin and looked up to see Nathan standing not far away.[]
Their eyes met in that moment.[]
Neither seemed to react, but Nathan frowned slightly.[]
His heart was pounding–whether from the song’s intensity or something else.[]
This woman was mysterious and dangerous, with a fatal attraction.[]
Clap clap clap clap…]
Thunderous applause erupted.[]
As the applause and cheers began, Nathan looked away first and turned to leave.
“Thank you.” The woman’s voice carried from the stage, sounding calm and light.[]
Nathan glanced at an excited Louie approaching the stage.
Letting his woman get so badly injured she looked half–dead, yet Louie only cared about the performance?
But it wasn’t his concern. He didn’t need to feel sorry for Louie’s woman.[]
Nathan looked down slightly and left without hesitation.[]
On stage, Amelia bowed deeply to the audience, then exited as directed.[]
Backstage, Sunny was jumping with excitement.[]
“Elena! You were amazing! I was completely captivated!“[]
Sunny grabbed Amelia’s hands while bouncing.
Amelia winced but still smiled softly. “Thank you.“[]
She’d only had three days to recover–nowhere near enough.]
Previously she’d been conserving energy, leaning on things when possible and minimizing movement. But on stage, she’d given everything.[]
Now her body couldn’t handle it.[]

Sunny, who knew nothing, stared at Amelia’s injuries.[]
