Lauren flashed a devious smile as Josefina approached. "Oh, Josefina, here to beg for my help, are we? Well, if you're looking for favors, you better adjust that attitude."
Josefina was momentarily stunned. Seriously? Lauren thinks she's the queen bee!
Seeing Lauren's smug expression, Josefina couldn't help but laugh coldly. "Beg for your help? Dream on, Lauren. You're not that important."
Lauren’s face flushed with anger. "Then why are you here?"
"I’m offering you a chance to get your sentence reduced. But if you’re not interested, I’ll be on my way."
Just as Josefina turned to leave, Lauren called out, "Wait, come back."
Desperate to see daylight again, Lauren admitted, "I did see a mysterious woman."
"Go on."
"I saw a woman wearing a mask. She looked around and then left."
Josefina had a hunch they were talking about the same person. "Describe her. Hair length, any distinctive features?"
Lauren thought for a moment. "Her bag fell, and when she bent down to pick it up, I noticed a mole behind her ear."
Bingo!
"Anything else?" Josefina prodded.
Lauren shook her head. "That's all I remember."
If Josefina hadn’t asked, Lauren would have forgotten all about it.
As Josefina was about to leave, Lauren shouted, "What about my sentence reduction?"
"I don't handle that. Behave well, and I'll report your cooperation. But whether your sentence gets reduced depends on your behavior."
Lauren was seething. Josefina had played her!
Meanwhile, Josefina returned to Oliver's office. Just as she reached the door, George hurried over and whispered, "Ms. Josefina, please try to calm Mr. Oliver down. He had an argument with Mr. Rowan and he's quite upset."
