After breakfast, nobody left the dining room. Everyone was waiting on the surveillance check.
Half an hour later, the butler, Ryan, walked in.
"Sir, I had the security team review the footage. They've gone through it all, and there's no sign of Mr. Oliver entering the premises," Ryan reported.
His words hit Lena like a punch to the gut.
Lena blurted out, "All checked? In such a short time?"
Ryan explained, "I had four security personnel each review a segment, which sped up the process."
Lena’s embarrassment was obvious, and the displeasure in the room was palpable.
Garrett was the first to challenge her. "We’ve checked the footage and found nothing. Lena, were you dreaming? Or is your vision failing? How could you accuse your sister like that?"
Dorian joined in, "Lena, if you’re not busy today, maybe you should get your eyes checked."
Hattie added her two cents, "Lena, Josie has already denied this, and you insisted you were right. Now that there's no evidence, what do you have to say for yourself?"
With the tide of questions against her, Lena found herself without a comeback, biting her lip in silent frustration.
Garrett, with a stern voice, commanded, "Lena, apologize to Josie."
Lena, lips quivering and seeing no allies in her corner, muttered her apology. "Sister, I'm sorry. It seems my eyes deceived me. I was wrong."
Josefina responded, "Little sister Lena, you can’t just go around making blind accusations. You need proof before you can point fingers. Thankfully, we’re family, and I can be forgiving. This would be a different story if you did this outside among strangers."
Lena was at a loss for words.
Hattie advised, "Lena, you can't make such mistakes again. Thankfully, Josie is magnanimous enough to forgive you this once."
Hattie mentioned her own plans, "The beauty salon is swamped today. I’ve just landed a partnership for a new skincare line, and I need to oversee it personally."
Josefina nodded, "I should head to work too; it's been hectic lately."
As the four of them dispersed, Lena was left standing alone, seething with indignation.
That’s when Annika emerged, catching sight of Lena’s furious demeanor and let out a startled yelp.
"Oh, Miss Josefina, you gave me quite a fright!"
Lena, baffled and annoyed, demanded, "How did I scare you?"
Annika, still perplexed, replied, "Miss Josefina, you looked so angry just now. It was really frightening. Everyone else is off to work; don’t you have things to attend to?"
As Annika’s confusion cleared, she gave an apologetic smile. "Silly me, I forgot that Miss Josefina doesn’t need to work for a living. You're so lucky, unlike me – a hard-luck case if there ever was one."
