Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 472

Hattie felt a whirlwind of emotions stirring inside her, and Lena's words almost pushed her over the edge. With a Herculean effort, she kept her cool and asked calmly, "Lena, why would you say something like that?"

Lena started to explain, "Last night around eleven, I was out on the balcony and saw Oliver sneaking away from Josie's room. I mean, Josie and Oliver meet up every night like this; it's such a hassle. They might as well just get married, you know? Then they wouldn't have to sneak around."

Josefina remained silent, her face giving nothing away.

Lena definitely had a knack for stirring things up!

Josefina asked evenly, "What time did you see Oliver? From your balcony? Did you take a picture or something for proof?"

Lena hadn't taken a photo; she had been too shocked to even hold her phone steady.

Hattie, watching Lena's expression, knew she had no evidence.

What was the point of making wild accusations without any proof?

Josefina pressed on, "If you can't show any proof, Lena dear, are you trying to slander me?"

Lena was at a loss for words.

Darn it, how could she have forgotten to take a picture!

Lena wasn't usually this careless. It was just the sight of Oliver last night, and the thought of Josie being with him at such an ungodly hour had gotten her all worked up.

She let her tongue slip this morning and blurted it all out.

Accusations against Josie coming from Lena? Not likely to be believed.

Dorian chimed in, "Lena, you can't just throw around accusations without proof. You know that, right? How can you say such things about Josie?"

Josefina's face fell, a picture of wounded innocence.

"Lena, I know you've got a thing for Oliver and it's unrequited, but spreading rumors isn't the way to go."

Lena was speechless again.

Ryan promptly approached, and Garrett instructed, "Check last night's surveillance footage. Start from eight and go through eleven. We need to see if Oliver paid our home a visit."

"Right away," said Ryan, hurrying off to attend to the task.

...

After Ryan left, an awkward silence filled the room. No one spoke; the tension was thick.

Lena didn't seem embarrassed, though. She was just waiting for the moment when the footage would arrive and vindicate her.

Finally breaking the silence, Lena spoke up, "Josie, I didn't mean anything by it. We're all family here. Mom and Dad adore you; whatever you do, they'll forgive you."

Josie gave a wry smile in response, "Lena, you keep talking like I've done something. Has the surveillance arrived? Did it provide any evidence? You might want to hold off on your comments until we have something concrete."

Lena smirked internally, "Ha, let's see if you can still smile after this."
