Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 1143

"Make a U-turn, we're not heading to the base anymore."

The driver almost missed the command, nearly continuing straight until Makiko's voice sliced through the air, startling him so much he almost forgot how to drive.

With Makiko's orders, the driver didn't dare question her and obediently turned the car around.

Better safe than sorry!

Makiko's eyes drifted towards the window, a growing unease gnawing at her. The car that had been trailing them just moments ago had suddenly disappeared.

Now, a white car with an unfamiliar license plate took its place, setting off alarm bells in Makiko's mind.

She wasn't sure if they were being followed, but it was better to be cautious than complacent. The base would have to wait.

...

Meanwhile, Luke was driving, watching as Makiko's car made a left turn. He continued forward, pulling out his phone to call one of his subordinates.

He couldn't follow her any longer.

Luke texted Josefina but got no response.

Frustrated, he slammed the steering wheel and called Percy.

"Percy, Makiko's too clever for her own good. The boss's orders went unfulfilled, and it's driving me nuts," Luke vented.

Percy had just left the lab, removing his gold-rimmed glasses and rubbing his eyes.

"Don't sweat it; Josie won't hold it against you," he reassured, knowing Josefina well.

"The boss might not blame me, but I'm kicking myself for messing it up," Luke said, exasperated.

Percy offered some comfort, "Makiko probably realized you were tailing her. She won't head to the destination now. Just have your team pull back."

"I've already given the orders, but I've got the route mapped out. I'll review it later," Luke replied, then asked, "Percy, about Logan's condition—do you have any solutions?"

Thinking of Logan, Percy envisioned the powerhouse of a man who clung to Josefina for support.

"If Josie's stumped, there's not much I can do either," Percy admitted truthfully.
