"Ms. Josefina," Alex said, his voice laced with a hint of desperation, "could you maybe transfer her to another branch? If that's too much, no worries. I'm more than willing to help her find a new job. I really don’t want to be a bother to you."

He felt guilty, like he was letting down Josefina, who had always been such a supportive mentor.

Just then, Deanna knocked and stepped into the room.

"Ms. Josefina, this is all my fault. Please don’t blame Alex," Deanna said urgently, as if worried Josefina might chew Alex out for her actions.

Alex was taken aback. He got up quickly and went to her. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm worried about you," Deanna replied sincerely. "I don't want you doing anything rash because of me. You've worked too hard to reach this point. Don't let it go to waste."

They were so engrossed in their conversation that they almost forgot Josefina was still there.

Josefina watched them with a knowing smile. "What? Do you both think I'm that unreasonable?"

"Ms. Josefina, that's not what she meant," Alex interjected quickly. "Please don't get the wrong idea."

"Ms. Josefina, you're an incredible boss and a trusted friend," Deanna added. "I just don't want my problems to cause any trouble for Alex."

Josefina laughed. "Alright, neither of you need to go anywhere. Keep working as usual."

Both Deanna and Alex were stunned, exchanging glances that seemed to say, "Did we hear that right?"

Josefina reassured them, "No need to doubt it. Just keep things low-key so no one else at the office catches on. If you two start something, it might be hard for me to handle."

"Don't worry, Ms. Josefina," Deanna promised. "I'll make sure to keep everything under wraps."

Alex still felt uneasy, surprised that Josefina was okay with this. Did she really allow office romances?

He decided not to push further and thought he'd bring it up privately with Josefina later.

"Thank you, Ms. Josefina," Alex promised. "I swear my work won't be affected by this."

Josefina gave them a warm smile and sent them back to their tasks.
