Chapter 282 – Visiting Blake
–ZANE’S POV–

There was a long silence, broken only by the background noise of Blake’s pack house.
Then his voice finally came through, rough and tired, like he hadn’t slept in days.
“You’re asking me to shelter the Hounds,” he said quietly. “And you. And Lia. I don’t know if this is a good idea, Zane.”
My jaw tightened.
I hated the way he said her name. If it were up to me, I’d yank his tongue out before he could.
But that wasn’t an option anymore.
“You owe her,” I said flatly. “And you know it.”
There was another pause.
“You think I forgot?” he asked then. “I know I made mistakes. But I stood with your pack against the Order, didn’t I? I bled for them.”
“You bled for your new mate, not us.”

“I tried to help, Zane. And I tried to help later, when I informed you guys about the Order dying. I am not the villain in your story anymore.”
“So then help us,” I said. “House us for a bit.”
Blake sighed. “Alright. If you’re coming here, then you’ll be safe. All of you. My pack house has the space. I’ll even help you find him—her father. I know the town better than anyone.”

“Great then,” I said. “We’ll be there by nightfall.”
When I hung up, I found her watching me.
Lia was curled on the sofa, her knees pulled to her chest.
The look in her eyes told me that there were a thousand worries running through her head, and honestly, I didn’t blame her.
She’d been through way too much in the last year.
And a part of me would always blame myself for falling short every time.
“So it’s really happening,” she whispered as I walked up to her. “I’m going to meet him.”
I crouched in front of her so she had to meet my eyes. “You’re not alone in this,” I told her firmly. “Whatever happens, whatever he says—you’ve got me. You’ve got all of us, my love.”

Her lips trembled, but she forced a shaky smile. “What if he doesn’t want to get involved? He left her for a reason. I’m guessing he was afraid.”

“Maybe. But I’m sure he’s not a bad person. He’ll help when he understands the stakes. Especially for you.”
She laughed drily. “For me? He wouldn’t do anything for me. He doesn’t even know me.”
“You’re his child.”
“He doesn’t want me, Zane.”
“Then he’s an idiot and we’re gonna change that.”
She let out a laugh, and I reached for her hand, pressing it to my chest. “Feel that? That’s just the effect of your laughter. You’re magic, baby. I’m sure some of it will work on him too.”
She smiled, then leaned into me, her forehead brushing mine. We stayed like that, breathing each other in like the world outside didn’t exist.
Then she pulled back gently, her eyes glistening with tears. “I should sit with Mom for a while. I have to tell her we’re leaving.”
I nodded, though every part of me wanted to keep her right here in my arms. “Go,” I said. “I’ll be waiting when you’re ready.”

–LIA’S POV–
The doors shut behind us with a dull thud, closing us inside Blake’s pack house.
The air was thick with the smell of wolves, but different to ours. Goosebumps covered my skin as my eyes swept around the room. Blake’s pack filled the space, their eyes fixed on us like we were intruders. Which, I suppose, we were.
Ajax muttered something under his breath, too low for me to catch, but the stiffness in his shoulders told me he was barely keeping himself in check. Aaron kept Sheila close, his arm wrapped around her waist protectively. Zane’s hand brushed mine, grounding me, though his stare was locked on Blake who stepped forward from the group.
He looked calmer than I’d expected. Just a cool, steady gaze that flicked from me to Zane, then back again.
“You came,” Blake said, voice even.
“We didn’t have a choice,” I answered before Zane could. My throat felt dry, but I forced the words out anyway. “If you care at all about what happens to this town and ours, you’ll help us.”
A murmur rippled through his wolves.

Blake raised a hand and silence fell. His eyes lingered on Zane, refusing to glance at me. “That’s what I’m doing,” he said. “I wouldn’t have allowed you guys here if I didn’t want to help.”
I released a slow breath, relief filling me. I had to hear it for myself.
Zane stepped forward, his voice carrying more command than mine ever could. “We need information. Leads. We’re looking for someone.”
“Her father,” Blake nodded. “We’ll get to that. For now, why don’t you guys settle in and rest for a while? We’ll talk in the
morning.”
