While the disaster went on in the world, in the land of the dead things were just as chaotic as they were in the living world. The reapers had lost all sense of order, for people were dying before their destined time and there were not enough reapers to take their souls. It had reached the point where all the elders had been forced to gather and find a way to stop the disaster and restore peace to the living world, as that would be the only way for the land of the dead to function according to time and order again.
The elders were currently sitting together in the high chamber, with a few reapers standing around them, waiting to hear what they would conclude about this catastrophe.
"We have to find a way to put a stop to this mass death happening, or in no time we will lose control over death," said one of the elders to the other three.
"Has it been known where this demon is hiding and creating such chaos in the world?" questioned the first elder, who held the most power and had recently issued the order for Astral’s soul to be perished, as everything had begun because of that reaper. If the reaper had not gone against time in the past, none of this would have unfolded this way. That was why, the moment she died, he had ordered for her soul to be extinguished completely.
"It’s coming from the world of the demons, where we cannot reach. He is there, controlling everything," reported one of the reapers who had been sent down to investigate and discover what was causing events that were never destined to happen nor written to occur. If something like this had been written in the destiny books, it wouldn’t have struck the reapers by surprise, and they would have been prepared for the consequences.
The demons and reapers had been great enemies since the beginning of time, as the dark demons cheat death, and anything that cheats death and lives far past its time were creatures reapers naturally disdained. Hearing that the chaos was coming from there, the elders knew they had no way to put a stop to it, as none of them had the ability to travel into that realm where demons had sealed it to stop any soul-taker from going in. The only reaper who could do so was the first Grim elder.
"If we don’t find a way to take the life of the demon doing this, things will soon fall out of our hands, Eden," said the second elder to the first elder, who had gone silent upon hearing where the chaos came from. "You have to go there and take his soul yourself to stop him. Only you are powerful enough to enter the demon world."
The elders were no longer soul takers, but when something threatened the balance of all realms, they were forced to step out of their world to fix it. There were four elders, and only the first one was stronger than any other Grim. That was why, when it came to decisions of this magnitude, they depended on the first Grim, who still wasn’t saying anything or agreeing to take on the mission of killing the demon. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Eden, say something," another elder exclaimed, but Eden’s skeleton-like fingers only kept tapping against the wooden arm of his seat.
Eden looked at the others from beneath his hood. They waited for his final word, waited for him to agree to go and stop the demon himself. But if they knew the real reason he hesitated, none of them would urge him to go. More than that, none of them would ever respect him again, nor would he keep his position as the first Grim.
He was about to speak, about to steer them toward another solution that did not involve him entering the demon world... when one of the Watchers rushed into the chamber and announced,
"We have a demon in our world. He says he’s here to see the elders, and anyone who tries to stop him will burn to dust."
All the elders rose to their feet. "The audacity of this creature!" exclaimed the second elder, but even before the rest could speak, the demon in question came striding into the chamber like he was walking into his parlor room, a smile playing on his face as his eyes fell on the first elder.
