Chapter 50

Eliana was startled, and she blurted out, Oh, are you actually a bloodhound?

She thought in surprise, just put a little ointment on my arm, and he smelled h

Surprisingly. Theodore didn’t lose his temper, Instead, he asked, How did you got hurt?

Trying her best to sound calm, Eliana replied, Durned myself while cooking. It’s no big deal.

But Theodore’s eyes stayed fixed on the scratches on her arm. A surge of anger rose in his chest as he thought, That must be made by Lainey’s people, and she’s hiding it from me. Is she afraid I confront them again? Stupid woman.

However, he said, Starting tonight, you don’t need to cook for me anymore.

Eliana’s eyes widened in surprise. What are you going to eat?

Takeout? That won’t work. If Samuel Einds out, I will be in serious trouble, she thought nervously

Teat downstairs, Theodore replied flatly.

Eliana stared at him in disbelief. Are you serious? You’re not fooling me, are you?

Theodore turned his expressionless face toward her and said, Do I look like I’m joking?

Eliana asked cautiously, But didn’t you say Lainey would never leta blind guy like you eat at the table?

Theodore narrowed his eyes slightly. idiot, I said that because i didn’t want to leave the room.

Well, I really am too naive, Eliana thought, exasperated.

Later that afternoon, the construction team arrived with the custom floortoceiling windows. As they installed them, the room was finally filled with natural light. Eliana stood back and nodded in satisfaction. Even paying the bill didn’t feel too painful anymore.

From a distance, Theodore watched as Eliana pushed open the small side windows that came with the new setup. The sunlight poured in, and she stretched her arms above her head. She basked in the warmth, her body relaxing fully into the moment.

With the fresh air now driting through the room, Theodore seemed to catch a faint trace of that same plant scent from the night before. He closed his eyes, and a quiet smile formed on his lips.

At 7 PM, Lainey beamed at her three children gathered around the dining table. She said, It’s so nice to have the whole family together again. Barbie, you’ve barely been home these years. I really miss you terribly

Barbara lowered her gaze slightly. Mom, I’ve just been focused on school. You know how intense the pressure is at Riverhood High.

Sipping on his juice, Jayden asked, Then how cone you had time to come back this weekend?

Theard there was a new addition to the family, so I came to check things out, replied Barbara.

Oh, you mean that stupid woman?Jayden sheered. You’ll see her at dinner. She’s old and uglynot even close to Alice.

Barbara’s eyes flickered. She had already moet Eliana and left her with scratches.

Her gaze slid toward Anthony with a hint of unwase, and she thought, How much of our conversation did he overhear?”
