"If it weren't for Merry, I wouldn't bother with you," Lisa said, gently rocking the baby. "Right, Merry? I just adore you.
"Okay, Merry, it's feeding time," she said, handing her over to me.
Although it was my first time, I didn't feel embarrassed. I followed Lisa's instructions to try breastfeeding, but the process was a bit painful. Since it was my first time, my positioning was off. In the end, I was drenched in sweat from the effort, and she still hadn't latched on.
This made me feel anxious and uneasy. "What do I do now?"
"Don't worry, it's normal in the beginning. We'll give her some formula to start with," Lisa said, turning to Brandon. He had been watching the whole time and was now as nervous and sweaty as I was. "Go make some formula for Merry."
"Is it always going to be this difficult?" Brandon, who had done all the research, now seemed like a clueless child.
"It won't be. A professional will come to guide Maddie tomorrow. She will get used to it after a couple of tries," she reassured him, clearly familiar with all of this.
He seemed to relax a bit after hearing this. He wiped the sweat from my forehead first before going to prepare the formula.
"Not bad—you've got a daughter and still haven't neglected your wife!" Lisa gave credit for where it was due.
Since my first attempt at breastfeeding didn't succeed, Merry, who had been calm, started fussing.
Lisa held and soothed her. "Don't worry, sweetie. Give your rookie dad a little time. He'll have your milk ready soon."
Brandon had practiced before, but he was still visibly nervous during the process. He double-checked the water temperature and the amount of formula. By the time he successfully prepared it, he was sweating again.
Raising a baby was truly exhausting work for both parents.
Brandon handed Lisa the prepared formula, and she looked at him directly. "Am I the one who's supposed to feed her?"
When Merry finally finished drinking, Lisa taught Brandon how to burp her to prevent milk reflux.
After finishing everything, Brandon looked at the sleeping baby and smiled. "It's true—practice really does make perfect," he said. "You can learn something a thousand times, but it's not the same as actually doing it."
He had done plenty of homework as a new father, but when it came to the actual task, he was still a bit flustered.
After Merry fell asleep, Lisa told me to rest and then went to the resting room. As she approached the door, she saw a tall figure standing there. Who else could it be but Logan?
Lisa glanced out the window and saw that it was barely dawn. He must have been there for a while, and she wondered if he had stayed up all night like her.
"Why are you spacing out? Do you want me to stand here forever?" he asked her as she stood still.
