Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 1003

"But Mae's in so much pain," Brandon said as if he could feel my suffering.

"She's in pain because she's having a baby for you," Lisa retorted. But then she thought about what Logan had said earlier—that she shouldn't have any children.

He said that because he was concerned for her!

A strange feeling flickered in Lisa's heart as she turned to me. "These are contractions. You can rest between the painful episodes. Have you eaten dinner yet? Did you eat enough?"

Before I could respond, Brandon answered for me. "She had a few gnocchi and some cake, but not much."

"That's not enough. She needs to replenish her energy for the delivery. Go prepare some beef broth or milk for her. These will help her regain her strength and have the energy to give birth," Lisa instructed Brandon.

She was right. The pain had already subsided a bit.

I looked at Brandon and said, "Why don't you go and get those? Liz is here with me."

"Wait, I'll call someone to deliver it," Brandon suggested, reluctant to leave me even for a moment.

"It's the middle of the night, and it's Christmas. Go yourself. Liz is here with me." I didn't want him to trouble anyone on this holiday.

Brandon couldn't refuse me at this moment. Though reluctant, he nodded and left the delivery room, immediately spotting Logan standing there.

He had been too worried about me earlier to notice Logan.

"You're here too? Perfect. Go prepare some hard-boiled eggs, milk and beef broth for me. My wife is giving birth and needs them," Brandon said, putting Logan to work without a second thought.

Logan frowned slightly. "Does she need to eat all that to give birth?"

Brandon nodded. "Yes, she needs energy. Those are Dr. Carline's orders."

Even with her and Brandon by my side, when the pain hit, I couldn't help but bite myself. Each time, he would lean in, letting me sink my teeth into his lips, hands, and arms. By the end, all those places were covered in bite marks.

After two grueling hours, the pain reached its peak. Lisa checked on me again and said, "You're fully dilated. It's almost time to push."

At that moment, I saw tears glistening in Brandon's eyes.

Lisa encouraged me as she assisted with the delivery. For the first time, I realized that being an obstetrician wasn't just about delivering babies and cutting umbilical cords. It required so much more.

Because my baby was in a breech position, Lisa knelt beside the bed and helped adjust the baby's position. She used all her strength to help me push, and with her assistance, I finally felt the baby move down. In that instant, the tense atmosphere in the delivery room was filled with the sound of my baby's cry.

It was loud, clear, and pure—truly the most beautiful sound in the world.

At that moment, my tears burst forth. I hadn't shed a single tear through all the pain, but now they flowed like a broken dam.
