Bella stood clutching her dirty wedding dress, her eyes red from crying, her voice breaking.
After composing herself, she spoke through her tears:
"Maxwell, wasn't today our wedding? Why did you leave me there all alone?"
Her pale face was flushed with crying, looking utterly pitiful.
Arthur frowned with irritation.
He despised her when she was like this.
He looked down at Alison by his side, and his expression softened slightly.
Alison watched the scene with interest, as if observing a drama that had nothing to do with her.
Seeing Bella's distress, Maxwell felt a pang of guilt.
But when he met Alison's detached gaze, he quickly regained his senses and said firmly:
"Bella, the wedding is over. The punishment for losing that game is complete. We need to return to our original positions now."
Hearing this, Bella's face filled with shock, as if she hadn't expected him to be so heartless.
Maxwell turned back to Alison, his tone pleading:
"Alison, marriage can be dissolved through divorce. Let's go inside and cancel the marriage certificate, okay?"
"No. Maxwell, what do you take me for?"
Arthur gave him a dismissive glance, his presence intimidating.
Maxwell's anger flared, repeatedly interrupted and almost losing his composure.
"Arthur Bridgewater, what right do you have to interfere between me and Alison? I've been with her for so long—what gives you the right to take her? You don't even love her, so why marry her? I should be her husband, the one spending life with her!"
Rage consumed him, and he could no longer contain himself. He threw a punch directly at Arthur.
"No!"
"Just a reminder—the person hitting Maxwell is your brother. Whose side are you on?"
Bella gritted her teeth, hesitating for only a second before unhesitatingly rushing forward to shield Maxwell.
"Maxwell! She doesn't care about you, but I do!"
"Brother, hit me if you must, but stop hurting Maxwell."
She instinctively closed her eyes, using her body to protect Maxwell.
However, Arthur and Maxwell were both seeing red, neither able or willing to stop.
At that moment, both men's fists connected with Bella.
Both had used their full strength. The impact made Bella feel as though her internal organs were rupturing.
"Brother, Maxwell, it hurts so much."
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Arthur showed no sympathy, grabbing her collar and tossing her aside like garbage.
