"The fact remains that it was caused by you sleeping with a woman. If you have the ability, refrain from such encounters. Don't shy away from spending money when engaging in such relationships. A woman's body is your investment. Do you still expect to have something for nothing? Men, with such moral character, afraid to give when they want to indulge themselves, how can such a good thing exist in this world?" Sylvia criticized him sternly.
Arthur's expression darkened.
It was supposed to be a discussion about the company's debt, yet it revolved around the notion of him having intimate relations with a woman. Was he being labeled as something inappropriate?
"Don't you also sell yourself at a high price?" he retorted with a cold smile.
"You..." Sylvia was momentarily taken aback, realizing he was seething with anger.
"Don't worry, Jacobs's Family Corporation is one of the largest companies in Paris. This sum means nothing to Charles, and he'll gladly help you settle it," he added, a sly grin forming.
"Mr. Bridgewater, let me reiterate that Charles and I have no personal connection. It's simply a routine business transaction," she retorted, her frustration evident.
"Fine, when a man goes out of his way to assist you like this, it's evident to anyone with discerning eyes. Do you think I'm a fool? Men comprehend each other best, and no man extends help to a woman without reason. You don't need to justify anything. Three hundred million – you must repay it, or I'll meet you in court," Arthur sneered.
Sylvia was nearly speechless.
Three hundred million?
She couldn't even gather thirty thousand dollars, let alone three hundred million.
And the children needed money every day!
Thinking about her children, her eyes welled up with tears. If it weren't for that night six years ago, would she have endured such misery all these years?
And now, this scoundrel not only wanted to bankrupt her but also burden her with such a massive debt!
What a scoundrel, what a brute!
"Arthur, you scoundrel, engaging in such immoral behavior and committing such wicked deeds, why don't you just disappear!" Sylvia slammed the table and rose to her feet, her eyes filled with anger as she cursed vehemently.
"You despicable woman." Arthur seethed, "Leave this place."
"Arthur, mark my words, even if I perish today, I'll drag you down with me. I've nothing left to lose anyway."
"I have nothing to do with him. If you slander me again, I will end you." She seethed with rage.
"You're insane." Arthur felt a stream of heat down his neck, realizing the gravity of the situation. He swiftly extended his fingers, gripping her wrist.
With a sudden exertion of force, she let out a scream of pain, and the sharp knife clattered to the ground.
Reacting quickly, Sylvia seized the tie on his chest with both hands, wrapping around him like an octopus, attempting to subdue him.
Due to the force applied, his balance shifted, causing his feet to tilt, and his body toppled backward.
In this unexpected turn, Arthur was pulled down by her, and they both descended to the ground.
In an instant, she found herself on her back, her vision clouded by the intensity of the pain.
To her dismay, Arthur ended up falling into her arms, and their lips unintentionally met in an unexpected kiss.
