No matter how many years had passed, Samuel would become unbearably upset whenever Tyla was brought up in conversation. His eyes lowered as the anger in his face slowly morphed into despair.
Tessa didn't say anything else before she turned and left.
Samuel was rooted to the spot for a moment before he, too, turned and went upstairs.
Tessa was supposed to join them for dinner that night, so Marianne had personally prepared a table full of Tessa's favorite dishes. However, after the heated argument they had, both Tessa and Samuel skipped dinner.
Marianne exited the kitchen and looked at the dishes on the table before letting out a long, weary sigh.
…
Tessa was in a terrible mood when she left the Yates residence, so she decided to go straight to a bar to drink her sorrows away.
She dialed Naomi's number and asked, "Naomi, where are you? I'm in a bad mood today. Come out and drink with me."
When she heard a soft moan echo from the other end of the line, Tessa immediately knew that Naomi was "busy". She was about to cut the line, but Naomi was faster.
After hearing how Tessa was in a bad mood, Naomi swiftly regained her composure and asked in a concerned tone, "Tessa, what happened?"
"I got into an argument with my father." Tessa pursed her lips. "It's fine. I know that you're busy. I'll be okay by myself."
Naomi batted away Quentin's misbehaving hands. "Do you need me to accompany you? Where are you now? I'll head over right away."
Tessa knew that Naomi was deepening her relationship with Quentin at that moment. Not wanting to impose on their time together, she said, "It's fine. I need some time alone to process what happened."
"Alright, then. Take care of yourself. Wynn is with you, right?" Naomi asked.
