Naomi was not particularly heartbroken. She felt a faint twinge of sadness, but it passed quickly.
She was beautiful, came from a wealthy family, and had plenty of admirers. One of them was a senior, a year older than her.
He came from a privileged background and knew how to win someone over. Every time he asked her out, he brought flowers and a gift. Sometimes it was an expensive handbag or necklace, and other times it was something simple and thoughtful, like a handmade flower crochet or a paper rose.
Whenever Naomi was on her period, he would bring her a heating pad and her favorite chocolates. Rain or shine, he always walked her to class.
He offered both financial and emotional support, making him seem like the perfect boyfriend. Naomi quickly fell in love.
In the early days of their relationship, the two were inseparable. She and her boyfriend clung to each other constantly, and every day she would flaunt their affection in front of Sienna and Tessa.
Quentin discovered she was dating on a weekend night.
Rivertown University was not far from the Taylor residence, and Naomi sometimes returned on weekends. That specific weekend, Quentin had come home too, just to see her.
Naomi was in the shower that evening. Her phone was sitting on the desk in her bedroom.
Quentin had brought her favorite snacks from the food stalls near their old high school. When he stepped into the room and heard the shower running, he figured she was showering. He planned to drop off the snacks and leave.
Just then, her phone lit up with a new message. Without thinking, Quentin glanced at the screen.
That single glance stopped him cold. His heart skipped a beat. A message had just popped up from someone saved in her phone as "Sweetheart".
"Sweetie, I just got out of the shower. Kiss kiss. I miss you so much."
Quentin stared at the words, his hands curling into fists until his knuckles turned white. He stood frozen in place. It was impossible to say how long he stayed rooted to the spot.
When Naomi came out of the bathroom, she was startled to see him standing there.
