She watched Ramona, who was a picture of shock and joy, and thought to herself, That surprise… that can’t be an act, can it?
As they exited the study, Niamh saw the rest of the Quinn family crowded by the door, all craning their necks, bursting with curiosity about the will. A few people she didn't know well approached her with obvious hostility, immediately asking Wade what she had inherited.
Wade, ever the professional, refused to answer any questions about the inheritance. He simply followed Jameson’s instructions, gathering the relatives to distribute the one-million-dollar checks.
“Hey, I just asked Ramona! Mr. Quinn gave her all his companies… She's basically the new head of The Quinn Group!”
“And I heard that Niamh… she only got the old man’s charity foundation. That’s hilarious.”
“A charity foundation? What’s the use of that thing!”
“Exactly… Still, I can’t believe he left everything to an adopted granddaughter.”
“Shh, keep your voice down.”
As they walked out of the study, Hayes’s gaze was not on Niamh, but on Felix and Hank. The two men simply completed the necessary paperwork with Wade and made no other move.
Just then, Ramona approached him. “Dad…” Her eyes were still red, and her tear-streaked face showed little of the joy one might expect from a massive inheritance.
“Grandfather had been grooming me to be his successor, but I never imagined he would actually entrust the entire group and all his companies to me… Dad, do you think I can handle it?”
Looking into Ramona’s sincere eyes, Hayes patted her shoulder. “Your grandfather believed in you, so you have to believe in yourself. Your mother and I will help you with anything you don’t understand.”
“Okay, thank you, Dad…”
