At The Empyrean. Niamh had booked a private room.
"Jarrett will be here soon. You can leave now," Niamh said, turning to Jonathan, who stood behind her.
Jonathan's expression was grim. "And what if I said I don't want to go?"
"As my assistant, you're not in a position to tell me no."
Niamh's tone wasn't harsh, but it was firm and left no room for negotiation.
Jonathan froze for a moment, his eyes fixed on her.
On Niamh's beautiful face, there was no longer any trace of the timid, submissive woman she had once been around him.
A bitter smile touched his lips. "Alright. Be careful, then."
Jonathan's strong hand gently patted Niamh's shoulder.
He couldn't quite explain why he felt the need to warn her.
Jarrett was an employee of CelestiMed, a genetics expert hired specifically for the FZZL project.
That made him a partner of The Thomas Group, and by extension, a partner of Niamh's.
It was just a meal; there was no logical reason for Jonathan to be worried.
Jonathan had always prided himself on being a good judge of character, but Jarrett was someone he couldn't seem to figure out.
In his memory, there were very few people he couldn't read.
It either meant the person was incredibly cunning or was consciously wearing a mask.
Now alone in the private room, Niamh waited a short while before Jarrett arrived.
"Ms. Rivers…" Jarrett sat down across from her, a friendly smile gracing his boyish face.
"Did you and Lana break up?" Niamh cut straight to the chase.
Seeing her serious expression, Jarrett's playful smirk faded. "Yes, I broke up with her."
"Why?"
"Because…" Jarrett lowered his eyes, his hands clasped around his water glass. "Because I realized my feelings had changed… I'm more interested in you than in Lana."
