"You dare touch a friend of Jareth Fairhaven? Looks like you have no idea who you're messing with," Jareth sneered, looking down at the Zade father and son. He flexed the fingers of his black leather-gloved hand menacingly.

"Mr. Fairhaven… my son… he just got confused and scared! That's why he acted so rashly…" Baron pleaded desperately. "He was just worried about me! It was a mistake made out of concern! Please… let him go! If you want to punish someone, punish me!"

"Oh, what a devoted son," Jareth drawled, a wicked smile playing on his lips. "So devoted that he gambled away over ten million overseas, bankrupting his parents in the process. Then he didn't even have the guts to come home, just skulked around hiding from his debts. Is that what you call devotion? Sounds more like a joke to me."

Alan, hearing his dirty laundry aired out for everyone, shrank back into his father's arms in terror.

"What… ten million?!" Baron couldn't believe his ears. His bloodshot eyes widened in horror as he stared at his son. "Alan… is what Mr. Fairhaven said true? Did you really lose that much money at a casino?"

Evadne was secretly stunned. Jareth was right on the money. Baron's delinquent son had indeed racked up enormous gambling debts overseas and had nearly lost his limbs over it. He had only been allowed back to Elmsworth after mortgaging the family villa. Unfortunately, with the recent housing market crash, selling the house wouldn't even cover the principal, let alone the interest.

Jareth and Mr. Zade were complete strangers. The fact that he had dug up so much dirt on him could only mean one thing: Thaddeus had ordered it.

Seeing Alan remain silent, Baron knew it was true. He let out a furious roar and started beating his son. But it was useless. "You worthless animal! You're trying to kill your mother and me!"
