Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 420

Sarah knew that even if she exposed Xyla as an accomplice, Xavier wouldn't believe her. The way he stared at her lacked any hint of warmth. His eyes were filled with a burning rage.

"Let's not talk about the past anymore. Let's talk about the issue with Bruce. It really wasn't me!"

Sarah's voice was choked up and on the verge of tears. She felt wronged and insisted on her innocence.

"It must be Lily and Terence. They're taking their revenge on me by framing me. I—"

"If this is their revenge, you deserve it."

Xavier had never been a soft-hearted man, especially when faced with people like Sarah.

Sarah had wanted to see Xavier because she'd clung to the hope that he would believe her. At the very least, she had hoped that he would help her, even just for Xyla's sake. After all, Xyla would be heartbroken if Sarah had to go to prison.

But Xavier's merciless response had completely snapped that last thread of hope she had left.

"Xavier, you can't treat me this way. I was by your side for all these years through thick and thin. I… I like you. Is that so wrong?"

Xavier felt disgusted upon hearing the word "like" slip from Sarah's lips.

His gaze was full of disdain. He said in an indifferent tone, "You need to get things straight. I'm not the one who needs you. You need me because only I can give Xyla the treatment she needs.

"Through thick and thin? The only thing binding the two of us together is a piece of paper—I'm your superior, and you're my subordinate. You have no right to talk about feelings with me."

While Sarah was undoubtedly good at her job and produced great results during her tenure as the vice president of Nova Group, Xavier had also rewarded her generously for her hard work. She couldn't leverage her achievements against him.

As for her feelings, Sarah was perfectly aware that he was a married man. Even if she hadn't known, she shouldn't have harbored romantic feelings for her superior.

Tears welled in Sarah's eyes as she stared at Xavier. She had loved him for so many years, so she was aware of how cruel and heartless he could be.

What she had never expected was for him to treat her with such cruelty and heartlessness.

"Have you fallen for Lily?" Sarah asked while her tears rolled down her face. "Xavier, she doesn't deserve you! She can't help you manage the company!"

Xavier's expression darkened further. "I don't need a wife who can help me with the company. And I don't need you meddling with my personal life either."

"If I go to prison it'll be all over for me!" Sarah shouted hysterically. "Everything I've done throughout all these years, all the hard work I've put in… How will I return to the company in the future?"

Xavier wasn't moved in the slightest. He was unforgiving as he corrected, "You and I will no longer have anything to do with each other in the future."

After all, they had never had a private relationship—it had always been professional. And Xavier wouldn't allow her to return to the company.

Sarah was stunned speechless by his declaration.

"Think carefully about my proposal. If you truly care for Xyla, you will do as I say. If not, you can just go back to the police station."

Xavier didn't want to speak with Sarah any more than he needed to. He turned on his heel and left after saying his piece.

He had come up with his plan with the assumption that Sarah would agree to it. After all, she prioritized Xyla's well-being above all else.

However, he had made a mistake. He had forgotten that Sarah was a master manipulator. Even he wasn't able to accurately predict what her next move would be.

Sarah reached a decision after a few minutes of mulling over Xavier's proposal. She would see Xyla, and she would do as Xavier asked. However, she had a request. She wanted to see Xyla alone.
