Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 419

Lily accepted the bag of food from the deliveryman with a nod. She sat down on the couch and began setting the food on the table.

She had ordered a bowl of plain porridge and a fruit cup. It was much simpler compared to what Xavier had brought. But the way she scarfed it down made it seem like the food was far more delicious than it actually was.

Xavier watched her with a troubled expression. He decided to let it go for now. Once the case was closed and Lily knew the truth, he thought she wouldn't behave like this anymore. He entered the bathroom to freshen up and change into a set of new clothes.

When he was done, Xavier exited the bathroom to see that Lily had finished eating. She had placed the breakfast he'd brought near where he'd sat the night before. She'd returned to the bed and was sitting on it.

Xavier hadn't eaten breakfast, but he had no appetite. He ruffled his short hair and packed up the breakfast she had refused to touch. Then, he sat down and started on his work.

Since Xavier wasn't going to the office anymore, Timothy had no choice but to stop by the hospital to deliver the documents that required Xavier's attention.

But the moment he stepped through the door of the ward, Timothy immediately wanted to turn tail and run.

The atmosphere was oppressive and unwelcoming. It was as if there were two different worlds in the room—one on the bed and one on the couch. Neither world could coexist with the other.

"Mr. Fulton, these are your documents."

Xavier rapped his knuckles on the tabletop. "Put them here."

As Timothy reported to Xavier, he kept his eyes trained on Lily.

She didn't quite understand the business jargon they were using, but she could tell that Xavier was getting more and more frustrated.

In the end, Xavier threw down his pen, pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, and left the room.

Timothy followed after him. The two of them stood near the ashtray bin in the corridor.

"The directors are already taking advantage of the rumors surrounding Ms. Lynde and starting to stir up trouble."

The board of directors dared not voice their opinions directly, so they decided to find fault in work instead to cause trouble for Xavier.

A cigarette hung between Xavier's lips. Even though he had anticipated the directors' actions, it was still frustrating.

Xavier returned to Lily's ward to tell her he had to leave for a little while to handle some business. But Lily didn't spare him a single glance from where she sat on the bed. After a few moments of hesitation, Xavier picked up his blazer and left without a word.

The police escorted Sarah to the hospital. They brought her to the room next to Xyla's ward. Xavier was already there waiting for her.

Sarah had only spent one night in the police station, but she had already lost the elegance that she used to possess.

When her eyes landed on Xavier, she rushed forward and said, "Xavier, I swear I'm being framed. I've never met with Bruce in private. I—"

Xavier swiftly cut her off. "Timothy said he didn't get the photos you sent to Xyla from the higher-ups for the Avelon Designs Competition. Since when have you been plotting all of this?"

Sarah was frozen in place. As she'd expected, Xavier had done a thorough investigation of the situation.

She changed her tone immediately and admitted, "You're right, I framed Lily and Timothy for that. But I wasn't the one who did it. It was—"

The rest of Sarah's words died on her tongue after she met Xavier's baleful gaze.
