The next second, the police barged in and swiftly subdued Camryn and Marshall, leaving them unprepared and defenseless. Where was their takeout?
"You called the police?" Camryn couldn't believe her. How dare she call the authorities after making the mess!
"Silence!" the officer growled, using an authoritative tone. "Mr. Camryn Hane, we've received a cybercrime report, and you're currently under suspicion in connection with a case of incitement to suicide.
"There are online chat records as evidence, and the victim's parents have also reported the matter to us. We're now required to take you into custody for questioning by the law."
Camryn was stunned. He belatedly recalled the screenshots circulating online and was terrified once again.
He desperately wanted to explain, only for the officer to say, "We'll carefully review the chat screenshots. In the meantime, you're required to come with us to the station for further questioning."
At the unfolding events, Marshall quickly proclaimed, "It was solely Camryn who incited the suicide! I have nothing to do with it, officer. I may be in that group, but I've never done anything out of line! I'm innocent!"
The officer was none other than Cole. He was amid the investigation of the human trafficking syndicate case, yet Shannon had given him another task. Indeed, she was the one who called the police.
She turned to Marshall with a dimmed gaze. "Are you sure?"
Her stare made his heart thump like a marching drum, but he kept his cool. "Of course."
Shannon wasted no time arguing with him and told Cole, "He has a password-protected folder on his C drive. You can determine whether he's involved in any crimes by accessing it."
Marshall immediately lost his composure upon hearing her words. His countenance shifted, and he lunged toward his computer, intending to destroy the evidence.
As Cole led the team to send the suspects back to the station, he couldn't help but cast Shannon a complicated gaze. Within a day, she had tossed him two major crime cases! The workload for today alone was equivalent to what they usually handled in half a month.
Still, there was no denying that she was impressive.
"The Special Security Agency has already contacted the higher-ups about tonight's incident. The rest is in the hands of the police. You should head home and rest for now," Cole told her as politely as possible.
Shannon remained cool and nodded obediently. "I'll get going, then. See you tomorrow."
"Alright, see you…" Cole instinctively responded but only realized the meaning halfway through.
He turned his head abruptly to her, thinking, "I'm seeing you again tomorrow?"
