"Why… Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Marie questioned in an unpleasant tone.
She was unwilling to admit that it'd been her poor judgment after knowing she'd been deceived for years. Instead, she instinctively blamed Shannon for not telling her sooner.
Shannon must have been able to tell Caleb's misfortune was due to stolen fortune, and she must have also been able to suspect that her health issues were linked to Cecily. But why hadn't she said anything?
Marie turned to George and saw that both he and Adam seemed unbothered. Her frustration grew. "So, you two knew about this all along? Why didn't anyone tell me?"
Marie had entirely forgotten about Elora. She was fuming.
"I was the one who asked Grandpa and Dad not to tell you," Shannon calmly replied.
Before Marie could press further, she continued. "I felt that sharing this at the right moment would be more effective, just like now."
Her words left Marie speechless.
Shannon added, "But I doubt you'd mind considering how much you care for the younger Snowdens. After all, what Cecily did doesn't represent the Snowdens, and nor does it reflect on Elora.
"That's all I have to say. Whether you wish to continue your companionship and bring another Snowden home is entirely up to you."
With that, Shannon got up and returned upstairs to handle her affairs.
Hector had remained silent all the way, but a small smile curved on his lips after Shannon spoke. He was deeply impressed and relieved.
When he saw that Marie had no further response, he got up and nodded toward her before heading upstairs.
The other Jensens except for George and Adam exchanged glances in confusion. They weren't sure whether to intervene or leave, judging from the gloomy look on Marie's face.
Shannon was unaware of how Scott felt. On her way upstairs, she saw Zane following her.
Zane had gone upstairs with her, but his departure went unnoticed as usual. She saw him panting and having a pale face just from two flights of stairs. "Do you have something you want to tell me?"
Zane finally caught his breath and nodded. He quickly typed on his phone, filling his screen with large text for her to see.
Shannon wondered why he wasn't using voice-to-text as usual. She leaned in to take a closer look, and her expression grew serious.
"Grandma initially refused to let Elora in, but Caleb brought someone home who said something that changed her mind.
"'She seems pretty innocent, so she deserves forgiveness.'"
After Ziya had said so, Marie had started questioning if she'd been too harsh with the Snowdens.
