The last newcomer mission was a geomancy task at a home Elliot had specifically chosen for Mike.
To accommodate the requester's time, the trio stayed for another two days in Blackthorn City. While she diligently completed her assignments, the Jensen residence was in an uproar once again due to Cecily's escape.
Caleb had originally booked a flight ticket to leave Seastone early the next morning. After hearing from Shannon that Cecily had escaped, his first reaction was to reschedule this flight.
He wanted to leave as soon as possible. No matter what, he wouldn't let himself get trapped into a doll again! He had his dignity to uphold.
He had just informed Thomas to reschedule his flight when Scott popped up with a message in the family group. It was rare, but Scott finally showed concern toward his brother.
He wrote, "Cecily has escaped! Oh my gosh. @Caleb, you better leave now; don't wait until tomorrow. Who knows if she'll secretly look for you?"
Caleb couldn't help but feel his heart warm up at Scott's concern. He was ready to say he had informed Thomas to reschedule his flight when he saw Scott continue typing.
Scott: "Seeing you've already gotten fooled once, I bet you'll naively invite her into your home again if she tries to come back and play the victim."
At that point, Caleb's face twitched wryly at his message, his grip tightening on his phone. "What kind of brother is he? Can't he be nicer to me?" he thought.
Before he could refute him, he saw Shannon agreeing, which was rare.
Shannon: "Agreed."
Her response seemingly started a trend.
Amid his thoughts, his phone pinged with a notification. It was Thomas informing him that he had rescheduled his flight, and it was taking off in three hours.
Caleb fell silent as he stared at the new flight time…
Had the conversation in the group chat never happened, he would've taken his bags and headed to the airport now. With everyone questioning his ability to resist Cecily, he couldn't simply leave the city and prove Scott right.
The entire family, including Adrian and Janice, believed he was in a hurry to leave because of his soft spot for Cecily.
At that thought, Caleb's expression dimmed. The next second, he called Thomas. "Hey, Thomas. Forget about the reschedule; I'll leave tomorrow as planned."
Of course, he would never be fazed by such a minor matter. In fact, he would even participate in the farewell party that his friends had planned for him tonight!
