Scott cursed Hank in his heart a hundred times over.
With no external help available, he quickly racked his brain for another solution.
He was trembling as he got out of bed and hurried to his desk. Then, he pulled the drawer to grab several triangularly folded talismans and stuffed them into his pocket.
These were talismans he had bought from Shannon over the past few weeks, including a silencing talisman, anti-malice talisman, fortune talisman, height-increasing talisman, and protective talisman.
He wasn't sure if they'd all work, but it was better to keep them close since Shannon had drawn them.
With his emerald pendant in hand and his pockets stuffed with talismans, Scott felt more at ease and didn't waste any more time. He quickly headed out of his room and ran straight for Hector's room.
When he got to the door, he didn't hesitate and began pounding on it.
"Hector! Save me!"
Scott's voice was shaky and pitiful. It was especially clear in the silent night.
The lights in Hector's room soon turned on, and he opened the door a moment later, dressed in pajamas. He saw Scott on the verge of tears, ready to throw himself forward.
Hector was quick to react by placing a large hand on his forehead to hold him back.
"Speak properly," he said. His voice was still hoarse and lazy from sleep.
Scott hurriedly explained how he'd been woken up by the burning sensation from his emerald pendant in the middle of the night and discovered it had cracked.
To make sure Hector didn't think he was imagining things, he showed him the pendant.
Hector examined the pendant and noticed the cracks that had appeared. The cracks started from the inside and ruined the sigil on its surface.
His expression grew serious as he reached out behind him and pulled out the pendant hanging around his neck.
…
At the Cooper residence, one particular room remained brightly lit though it was late.
Kai Beck lay sprawled out in a bathtub, playing video games and fiercely trying to increase his ranking.
When the incoming call popped up, he jolted and caused the phone to slip and smack him in the face.
"Ow!" Kai Beck hissed in pain and quickly sat up in the tub. He grabbed the phone and saw that he'd been defeated in the game.
He scowled in frustration. Seeing the screen still flashing, he answered in an annoyed tone, "Who's this?"
How dare anyone interrupt his match in the middle of the night?
"Hector," Hector calmly introduced himself. "Shannon's brother."
