Cecily grew increasingly frustrated at the system's mention of affection level.
Scott's affection level had plummeted continuously to the point where it seemed beyond repair. And now even Hank's affection level was starting to drop significantly.
How could she hope to absorb their fortune through affection levels at this rate?
The two people with the highest affection levels toward her weren't even home, and she couldn't just sit there with a scar on her face until school started.
"System, I want to try the method you mentioned."
"Cecily, there's no way to reverse the body takeover once it's successful. Are you sure you want to proceed?"
"Yes!" Cecily gritted her teeth. She already had her first target in mind.
…
Late at night, the Jensen residence was still and quiet.
Scott was sound asleep in a room on the second floor, lying face down on his bed. Suddenly, a small palm-sized doll sitting on the shelf seemed to be activated by some unseen force.
Its originally hollow and lifeless eyes blinked slowly in the darkness.
After a moment, its stiff head turned, and an invisible thread began to float out from its heart and gradually stretch toward the sleeping Scott.
Scott was completely unaware and remained fast asleep as the thread inched closer. It climbed from the floor onto the bed and headed straight for his heart.
Just as the thread was about to touch his body, he jolted awake as if something had burned him. He sprung up from the bed and slapped his chest wildly. "...Fuck!"
His pajama collar got tugged in the commotion and revealed an emerald pendant hanging around his neck—the one Shannon had sold to him.
No, something in the room was trying to harm him!
Scott clutched the emerald pendant tightly as his eyes darted around the room in panic, but there was no sign of anything out of the ordinary.
With one hand gripping the emerald pendant for dear life, his other hand trembled as he reached for the phone on his bedside table.
His first instinct was to video call Shannon for help, but when he called, a notification popped up to show that his number was blocked.
Scott felt utterly defeated. "Shannon!"
Shannon still hadn't removed him from her blacklist.
It was all Hank's fault! He had used his phone to contact Shannon, and now his number was blocked!
