When Cecily heard that Shannon chose a gown with black as its main color, she swiftly chose a white gown adorned with feathers, making her graceful features look even gentler and more elegant.
Scott and the others had clearly been dazzled by Shannon, but they would never say a single word of praise for her. They didn't want to let it get to her head.
But when it came to Cecily, they had no such concern. They gathered around her and heaped praises on her.
It was as though Cecily was the real princess of the family. She pretended to inadvertently glance at Shannon with a hint of smugness in her expression, but Shannon didn't even look at her. Instead, Shannon was negotiating with the hairstylist to keep her styling simple.
Cecily was speechless. She lowered her gaze. Even though she was still smiling faintly, one could tell she was no longer as happy as she was earlier.
Scott noticed and hurriedly asked, "What's the matter, Cecily?"
"It's nothing," Cecily said in a low voice while shaking her head. "Stop crowding around me and praising me. Shannon's the real star tonight. She won't be happy if she sees this."
Hank immediately frowned. "What does that have to do with us? You're the sister who grew up with us."
Scott nodded along and said, "That's right. She's just abusing the fact that she just returned to the family, so Uncle Adam and Grandpa are paying her more attention."
Despite saying that, Scott dared not openly mock Shannon this time. He merely muttered his comment as softly as possible.
Thanks to Cecily's subtle but pointed hint, Scott and the others also thought the family no longer had any peace ever since Shannon's return. The thought of wanting to get to know her better after seeing her dazzling appearance earlier swiftly faded away.
Noting their reaction, Cecily tried to add fuel to the fire by lamenting quietly, "Now that Shannon is back, I hope she can be more mature."
However, Scott's dissatisfied expression morphed into one of mixed emotions. After a brief silence, he muttered, "It seems like she didn't live a good life with the Grays. From now on, as long as she doesn't cross the line, we'll just put up with her, too."
Thinking about that tiny apartment Shannon rented, Scott felt a little uncomfortable once again.
As for Cecily, she was utterly confused by his reaction.
