Before coming over, Scott, Hank, and Caleb had already imagined how Shannon would make them apologize to her. They had felt incredibly miffed about that.
But now that she didn't even bother asking them for an apology, they didn't feel all that great about it either. It seemed like their presence was completely unnecessary.
For one reason or another, they felt frustrated about that.
…
Shannon followed the Jensens back to the Jensen residence.
This time, Scott and her other cousins dared not show any kind of discontent toward her—mainly because they didn't want her to return to that tiny apartment. They thought it would be a humiliation for the family if she stayed there.
Even Eva, the youngest, had been taught to act more appropriately. She even greeted Shannon when the latter came back.
Just like Hector had previously said, when a person suffered an injustice, they should firmly stand their ground to prove they weren't a pushover. That way, others wouldn't dare to cross you so easily next time.
When Shannon got to the Jensen residence, Hector was standing at the entrance. He smiled at her, just like the way he did when he first saw her.
"Welcome home, Shannon."
Cecily had been waiting in the living room, too. When she saw Shannon, she immediately said sweetly, "It's so good that you're back, Shannon. Grandpa had sent out invitations to all the families, inviting them to come over for the dinner banquet tonight.
"We wouldn't know what to do if you didn't come back."
Her voice was clear and melodious, but her words insinuated that the family didn't coax Shannon into coming back because they wanted her back. They simply wanted tonight's dinner banquet to proceed smoothly.
A sensitive person might have started doubting their worth and feeling insecure.
However, Shannon eyed Cecily before remarking with a smirk, "It's just a dinner event. It can always be postponed to tomorrow if it doesn't work out today.
"I doubt people would deny me as the Jensen family's daughter just because the family didn't throw a banquet for me."
Turning to Hector, she added, "Isn't that right, Hector?"
Annalise was the one who prepared the gowns and accessories for Shannon. She had a lot of connections in the fashion industry and was even able to borrow three haute couture gowns that hadn't even debuted on the runway yet. There were also other high-end heels and jewelry.
During her time with the Grays, Shannon had participated in several dinner events before, so she was familiar with the process of getting ready for such events.
Soon, she picked out an off-the-shoulder, black and white gown that flared out with a mermaid cut at the bottom. When she came back down all dressed up, even Scott and the others, who constantly thought little of her, couldn't resist staring at her.
The black base of her gown made her look classy and elegant. The gown had a small train in the back, and the front was adorned with white embroidered flowers, adding a touch of glamor to the gown.
Shannon had a tall, slender figure. The black against her fair skin made her look even more radiant, and the off-the-shoulder design left the graceful slopes of her shoulder and collarbones on display.
She wore a white embroidered shawl around her neck that matched her gown, and her head was adorned with a ring of pearls that kept her looking refined yet understated.
Her appearance stunned all of the Jensens. They couldn't speak at all. All they did was stare in silence. Even their breaths seemed hitched.
Shannon looked like the most beautiful blossoming flower nestled up on the mountain, untainted by anything—one that had quietly bloomed without anyone ever noticing, until today, when she finally displayed her beauty in all its glory at the Jensen residence.
