Upon hearing him mention "dragon," Shannon's eyes narrow thoughtfully.
Hank, who was standing beside her, looked completely baffled and asked, "Wait, what?"
He instinctively looked up at the sky and continued, "Is there a dragon?"
Shannon stated, "There are no dragons. It's merely a linguistic trap."
Most people knew that snakes couldn't fly.
Therefore, if someone asked whether the creature flying through the clouds was a snake or a dragon, most people would instinctively, as Hank did, assume it was a dragon.
And the intention behind Kai Beck's question was to get Benjamin to say "dragon."
"In folklore, there's a creature known as a wyrm. It's believed that if a wyrm wants to transform into a dragon, it summons thunderstorms and then seeks out a fated person to ask that question.
"If the person answers 'snake,' the wyrm won't be able to transform and will be punished by the heavens, reverting to its original snake form. If the answer is 'dragon,' the wyrm will transform into a dragon."
Hank immediately dismissed it as nonsense. "Spirits aren't allowed to transform anymore, especially not into dragons. And it hasn't rained in ages, let alone thunderstorms."
Shannon disregarded Hank's comments and asked Benjamin, "Did you answer his question?"
"Nope," Benjamin replied coldly.
It was clear to both Shannon and Benjamin that the question was a trap.
Despite not knowing Kai's motives, Benjamin was careful in how he answered.
Even the most experienced reporters couldn't get a slip of the tongue out of him, let alone a teenager like Kai.
He didn't foresee that his silence would lead Kai to block his path and ultimately result in him being trapped in that place.
Shannon was taken aback when she found out that Kai, after being rejected, would have the audacity to block his way.
Kai's neck and jaw were covered in distinctive silver scales, and beneath his wild, tangled hair, a pair of short, straight horns could be found.
Those horns were what set a wyrm apart from a snake.
"You... Have you only recently transformed into a wyrm?"
Kai could feel the energy of a mystic master emanating from her. He became visibly wary and didn't answer her question. He defiantly retorted, "I haven't completed my transformation ritual, nor have I harmed anyone. You can't capture me!"
Shannon glanced at him with narrowed eyes. Despite his young age, he was surprisingly knowledgeable about the rules.
"You've barely completed your transformation. It's obvious you're not ready to transform into a dragon yet. Why are you so eager to undergo the transformation ritual?"
He was like a baby who had just learned to crawl and already wanted to fly. It was ridiculous.
Kai was clearly aware of this, yet he still argued, "I'm just getting a head start. And look at all that golden light around that person! If he can acknowledge me, I can bypass centuries of training and become a dragon right now!"
