"E-Even if you scrambled to find a place at the last minute, you don't need to get such a rundown place. It's not like we don't have money," Hank said with a frown, assuming that Shannon was just trying to play games with them.
They weren't going to be so easily guilt-tripped about what happened.
Shannon simply glanced at him before ignoring him completely.
Her attitude gave Hank the urge to continue throwing remarks, but before he could, he spotted a plump white fox shooting out of the pet house in the corner. It swiftly curled itself around Shannon's legs.
At last, they noticed the pet house and the toys in the corner of the living room. Judging from how worn out everything was, they could tell she had been living here for some time. Naturally, they realized this was where Shannon had been staying all along.
Blunt as he was, Scott immediately asked, "Weren't you living with the Grays this whole time? Why are you renting a place here by yourself? Did they kick you out?"
There was a noticeable note of anger in his voice. Despite not liking Shannon's return to the family, he still thought of her as a Jensen. No outsider was allowed to disrespect a Jensen like that.
Hank's and Caleb's expressions were dark, too. They felt as though the Grays were disrespecting the entire Jensen family.
However, Shannon found the change in their attitudes rather strange. They had clearly thought little of her and picked on her yesterday. Why did they seem so indignant on her behalf today?
"The Grays didn't allow me to have a pet, so I rented this place to raise my fox," Shannon said.
She specifically emphasized the last few words while eyeing Scott and her two other cousins.
They immediately recalled what they said yesterday morning about not wanting to let her raise Marshmallow at the Jensen residence. Once again, their expressions darkened with mixed emotions.
Adam had heard from Hector that Shannon wanted to keep Marshmallow with her at the Jensen residence. He quickly informed her, "Hector's already prepared a pet house for your fox. You can keep it there. I promise that no one will make any further comments about it."
Why was Adam apologizing to her already?
She didn't feel pleased about Adam, a powerful man, humbling himself without hesitation to apologize to her. Everyone thought she had only spoken out of anger yesterday, but she knew she meant every word.
Seemingly letting out a quiet sigh, Shannon said, "I'm not mad at you, so you don't need my forgiveness. You don't need to apologize either."
After a pause, she added, "I'm legally an adult now. I can live by myself. You don't need to worry about me. I moved out on my own because I wanted to."
In other words, she wasn't inclined to return to the Jensen residence.
Frowning, Adam was just about to speak when he heard Hank muttering, "I'm an adult, too. You think I didn't move out because I didn't want to? The family won't let me do it."
