Shannon and Benjamin were truly caught off guard. Against a Ten-Tailed Elythune, they, with divine souls from another world, had no strength to go against her.
In the blink of an eye, the scene around them shifted. The three now stood in a secluded garden tucked deep near the rear palace.
At the center of the overgrown courtyard was an old well, the very same one where Grace had been pushed to her death.
At that moment, Lucan stood by the well, holding a phoenix egg in one hand, seemingly deep in thought.
Sensing the foreign presence, he turned his head and saw the two individuals he had met before at the Ignis residence, as well as… Elowen.
Though he understood immediately, Lucan didn't reveal his knowledge. Instead, he acted as if he didn't recognize her, briefly scanning the group before shifting his gaze away.
He then addressed Benjamin and Shannon, saying, "The phoenix's divine soul has been repaired. The egg will hatch soon, and I've brought them with me."
Only then did he glance at "Grace" beside Shannon. "Will the lady-in-waiting find a place to settle them?"
However, his instruction only granted him a harsh glare from Elowen. "Are you giving me orders?"
An unfazed Lucan questioned back, "Aren't you a lady-in-waiting?"
With a single sentence, Elowen immediately revealed her true form. A fox tail flicked through the air with practiced ease, swatting Lucan's head lightly.
Even those two souls from the alternate world could recognize her at first glance, yet her dragon actually mistook her for a lady-in-waiting! He deserved a slap.
And there he was, thinking of leaving her behind to handle the turmoil of Celestria on his own.
Although Lucan was once again swatted by her tail, his expression remained solemn and composed. Yet, there was a subtle hint of relaxation in his eyes.
Looking at her, he simply asked, "Feeling better now?"
Elowen swished her tail proudly, her expression smug. "I didn't come here to vent at you. I came to keep an eye on them."
What if those two souls from the alternate world caused chaos in this world?
Although Elowen had indeed helped out of curiosity at first, it was the anomaly in the well that had initially drawn her to this place.
Had she not been worried about the body being tainted by malice in the array, she wouldn't have gone out of her way to retrieve the body and help Grace come back to life.
After all, for revenge, the body wasn't strictly necessary; the soul was more than enough.
Unlike Elowen, who took it in stride, Shannon and Benjamin couldn't help but overthink when they heard that this was the place where Grace had been killed.
While it was possible for someone to impulsively kill their friend in a moment of rage, the desire within them, stirred by malice, might have been the true catalyst for their actions.
This wasn't to absolve Serena of her guilt, but at least it gave them a reason to suspect that Serena's choice to strike might not have been entirely her own, but influenced by malice at play.
It was unclear when the array had been plated there.
Lucan, who had only just found out about Elowen's previous visit to the well, asked…
