The livestream chat was then filled with questions.
"Who's that? Why would they even say that?"
"I didn't know they had a cat."
"I did. They have a moggy called Gunner. It'd sometimes appear in the stream."
"Oh, Gunner! I love Gunner! Why would he want to abandon it?"
The female streamer, Juliet Lasley, froze mid-motion the moment she saw the comment pop up. Her eyes snapped toward her husband beside her.
Her husband, Hubert Zacher, was helping out on camera, casually assisting with the cooking.
At the mention of the message, his face stiffened for just a split second, but he quickly collected himself, his expression hardening.
"Who are you?" he barked, his tone cold and defensive. "Don't joke about something like that—this is slander!"
He faced the camera, looking righteous and dignified. "Gunner has been with us for many years. He's family. I will never abandon him!"
Kai then asked Trevaris, "Did you get it wrong?"
The latter shook his head, solemn. "I'm confident. He wants to discard his cat because he wants children. He thinks the cat's existence is the reason why his wife refuses to have kids."
Kai's eyes lit up instantly, and with renewed confidence, he began furiously typing, "You know full well whether it's slander or not. Don't think your thoughts are so well-hidden.
"You want a baby, but why does the cat have to go?"
The moment that comment hit the feed, a new wave of outrage flooded the chat. Everyone was scolding Hubert, berating him for sacrificing an innocent life for another.
Anyone with a bit of common sense knew that keeping a cat posed little to no risk for a pregnant woman; the chances of transmitting any infection were minimal at best.
At first, Juliet couldn't believe it. Hubert might not have been a huge fan of their cat, but he never outright rejected it either. In fact, he handled most of the pet care.
She didn't want to doubt her husband over a single comment… until that comment mentioned having a baby.
"Juliet, don't listen to that nonsense. Yeah, I've talked about wanting kids—I've even mentioned it during livestreams—but how could I possibly want to get rid of Gunner because of that?
"Come on. I never even thought that—okay, even if I did, which I didn't, it's not like I actually did anything. There's no way this person could know what I'm thinking. They're just making stuff up!"
Kai looked at the male streamer's exasperated expression and diligently typed, "No one knows what you think, but I do."
Hubert scoffed at the mysterious tone in the comments, clearly getting irritated.
He shot back, "You sound so confident. Why don't you come out from behind the screen and face me directly? Let's do a joint stream and see who's got the nerve!"
Kai wasn't going to back down from someone so bold. "Bring it on! I'm not afraid of you!"
He was sure he could expose the ulterior motives behind Hubert's words. If that didn't work, he had his ultimate secret weapon ready to back him up.
With that thought, he turned to look at Shannon, his eyes wide and expectant, as though waiting for her approval.
She was baffled.
