Nobody knew about Caleb's complaints. After a simple exchange of pleasantries, Shannon stated her purpose of visiting.
She positioned Trevaris before Rhodes and asked, "Take a good look at him. Do you remember who you got that phoenix feather from?"
Rhodes was somewhat incredulous when he heard they had found a phoenix youngling. He leaned in to sniff, and sure enough, the familiar scent lingered.
His hand instinctively twitched, itching to reach out and pluck a strand of Trevaris' hair. However, before he could touch it, the boy immediately took a large step back, hiding behind Shannon, eyes full of suspicion and wariness.
Rhodes awkwardly withdrew his hand, clearing his throat. It appeared old habits died hard.
After a brief pause, he returned to the topic at hand, continuing, "Actually, I'm not sure which phoenix I got the feather from. All I remember is that at the time, a phoenix was battling something.
"Its flames were falling from the sky in clusters, like a rain of fire. Among the flames, there was a tail feather, and I just… grabbed it on impulse."
Although Rhodes had taken the feather, he didn't really know how to use it. So, he just kept it hidden in a little compartment in his ear, only taking it out when the weather was cold.
The reason? The phoenix feather was warm.
Shannon had known this ever since she took the feather from him. So, when the opportunity arose, she had decisively traded for it.
After hearing the story behind how Rhodes had obtained the feather, she realized that her trip here might have been in vain.
He had stumbled upon the phoenix by chance, and the feather had been a lucky find. He didn't know the phoenix at all, let alone its origins.
Trying to find any memories of Trevaris through him was probably a lost cause.
However, Shannon didn't press the matter. After all, Trevaris himself didn't seem particularly concerned about not having any ancestral memories.
In this case, Kai became the expert. He immediately patted his chest and took full responsibility for this task. It could be a way to make up for mocking Trevaris' name earlier.
When Rhodes heard they were going to buy clothes for Trevaris, he got very excited and, ignoring the working hours, insisted on joining them.
So, the four of them headed straight to a few of the trendy stores that Kai often frequented.
During the journey, Rhodes would ask about Benjamin. However, since the latter had received an urgent call from the Special Security Agency, she didn't ask him to join.
The group of four headed into a trendy store, and after about an hour, Kai had completely transformed Trevaris from head to toe.
Gone was the frail, pitiful child, and in his place stood a young trendsetter, dressed to perfection.
What made it even more amusing was that Kai had dressed the kid according to his taste, which meant, at a glance, he looked like a mini version of Kai.
