Faced with the shameless Glovers, Mariam couldn't contain her emotions and screamed, "Scram! Every one of you, scram!"
At the entrance, Levi had already recognized the woman screaming in frustration. It was his sister, Mariam.
Mariam, who by age should be just over 40, now looked closer to 50. It was all because of them.
A sharp chill flickered through Levi's eyes. Without another word, he swept straight into the shop.
Barnaby and his family had just been smirking to themselves, watching Mariam start to crack under the pressure. That was what they wanted. The moment she broke down, they would win.
Just as that thought crossed their minds, a sudden chill swept through the room. An icy breeze crept up their spines and settled cold and deep in their bones.
Willie suddenly slapped himself across the face—hard.
The slap rang out so loud it echoed, the force of it spinning him in a full circle before he toppled right into Barnaby with a thud.
Barnaby was dragged down in the fall, the two brothers crashing to the ground in a heap with matching groans of pain.
The sudden, bizarre commotion startled even their mother, who had been wailing dramatically at the doorstep. She blinked in confusion, her cries cut short.
"Willie, what on earth are you doing?"
She wasn't the only one because Mariam stood frozen, as did the growing crowd of onlookers, all equally baffled.
Willie was about to snap back that he had no idea himself when his vision suddenly shifted. Something felt wrong.
His foot connected squarely with Barnaby's chest, launching him several feet through the air and right into their mother, still standing at the entrance.
"Barnie! Mom!" Willie wailed, but he dared not make a move.
Barnaby and his mother had just started to yell back at him, furious at what they thought was another one of his tantrums, until they looked up.
They froze as they witnessed the sudden appearances of two "humans", with one still draped over Willie's back and flashing them an eerie smile.
The other figure stood quietly beside Mariam, radiating utter coldness as he stared at them. His skin was deathly pale, almost bluish, and unlike everyone else in the shop.
He had to be a ghost—no, both of them had to be ghosts!
