Torrents of mud and water crushed through the forest and split into different paths.
Shannon's fingers danced and formed mudras, channeling mystic light to guide the formation. The mystic symbols of the array began to spread along the mountain and stretched outward.
As mystic symbols sealed the crumbling slope at the highest points of the mountain, where the flow was most violent, mudwater was blocked from dragging earth with it. It was forced to rage downhill alone.
But wherever it passed, it soon found there was less it could sweep away. Soon, the force of the landslide started waning in momentum.
As the ferocious landslide showed signs of slowing down, Kai and the others at mid-mountain seemed to receive their instructions.
"Cornelius, come with me to stop the rain!" Kai cried and transformed into a silver-white dragon to soar into the sky.
He had experience with stopping rain.
Cornelius rolled his eyes at Kai. "Why should I take orders from you?"
Though he said so, he shifted into a blue dragon and chased after the silver-white dragon into the clouds. Since his cover was blown, there was no use hiding his true form now.
As the rain began to ease under Kai and Cornelius' help, Raiden and Steen acted immediately. "We need to keep diverting the mudslide."
It was only by splitting the flow that they could weaken the force of rushing floodwaters.
…
At the foot of the mountain, officials were evacuating villagers.
The panda base was spared from the flood zone thanks to its high elevation, but they still received emergency alerts.
Benson had been worried sick over Steen's disappearance. When he heard news of a potential flash flood, he froze before bolting out the door.
Button was still up there.
"Benson, where are you going in this rain?" a colleague shouted from behind.
But Benson didn't respond and vanished into the storm.
Bolts of lightning began to spark through the dark clouds, followed by a crack. A bolt of lightning slammed into the mountain and landed just beside the tree where Button was hiding.
The flash and roar hit too close. Already trembling, Button let out a terrified shriek and bolted from the barrier Steen had placed around it.
Steen paled and immediately shifted to his true form to bolt after it. He moved so fast the rocks scraped against him, but he didn't care. Finally, he managed to tackle the terrified Button halfway down the slope.
"Don't run! Run again, and I'll beat you up!"
Now pinned down, Button finally stopped escaping. It clung to him and whimpered pitifully.
Steen was about to head back to Raiden's side with Button. Just as he turned around, a bolt of lightning tore through the sky and struck.
Steen reacted almost immediately by pushing Button down to shield it under his round, flurry form. His mind went blank as he heard a deafening crack of lightning.
The lightning bolt struck him directly.
