She slowly walks down the stairs, looking regal as always. The lights around the house reflects on her dress, making everything around her glow.
They move forward and make her sit on the white cushion. Her mother and grandmother sit beside her, holding her hands, while her aunt stands behind her. Sahaan can feel the glare on her back from Ayesha.
In front of her sat Ahmed. However, she can only see a blurred vision of him. A white see-through curtain is in between them, held by Isra and Azra. But the real reason she couldn’t see him clearly is because of her tears, they made everything blurry even though she holds them in.
The magistrate comes forward and starts the ceremony with some chapters and verses from the Quran. And lastly, the question which Sahaan dreads comes.
"Sahaan Haashir Khan, daughter of the late Haashir Lashari Khan, do you accept Ahmed Ashar Khan, son of Yaqub Khan, as your husband with 50, 000 rupees as your right?” the magistrate asks loud and clear.
Sahaan clenches the ends of her veil. Tears rapidly leave her eyes as she remembers Ahmed's words.
"You got what you wanted. You were jealous of your own cousin! She treated you like a sister. Dammit! Don't accept this wedding. Do not say I do. You’d better say no! If you don’t do as I say, then no one will save you from the wrath of Ahmed Khan! And you know Pathans never break their promises, I won’t go back on my words.”
The magistrate asks her again, with much patience.
Sahaan’s aunt grips her shoulder.“Answer, Sahaan.”
The magistrate asks Ahmed the same question and he replies with the same answer as Sahaan.Isra and Azra leave the curtain they were holding. Ahmed looks up at his wife who’s looking down with tears flowing like waterfalls.
Sahaan is being comforted by her mother and grandmother, who are wiping away her tears. Isra hands her a tissue. And the rest of the hall fills up with congratulations.
Everyone hugs each other.
While hugging others, Ahmed still secretly glances at his crying bride. His heart clenches seeing her in pain, but he suppresses that feeling trying to bloom back the hatred but, heart want what is wants!
Ahmed and all the gents leave the hall as they go to the backyard, where a stage is set up for the two couples to sit.
