When Ethan mentioned Rose's name, Vivian immediately lost her temper.
"Ethan, do you now think I'm not as good as Rose? Is that it?" She scratched at him fiercely with her hands.
Ethan glared at her, exasperated. "You're being unreasonable," he said, shoving her into a taxi. He coldly tossed out, "I'm going to work overtime at the hospital," before turning and leaving.
Vivian was so angry she stamped her foot in frustration.
At the hospital, perhaps because it was a weekday, all of Rose's patients had been diagnosed by the end of the workday. Rose brewed herself a cup of coffee and sat alone in her examination room, leisurely sipping it.
The door to the examination room was suddenly flung open, and the elite woman whom Rose had treated before appeared again. Rose was quite surprised.
She was about to give the old patient an additional appointment when Anna directly stepped forward and held her hand down.
"Dr. Marshall, I'm here today for personal reasons," Anna said.
Rose looked astonished.
Anna sat down on the chair next to Rose, took out several thick stacks of manila envelopes from her bag, and placed them in front of Rose.
"Dr. Marshall, leave Houston, and all of these are yours," Anna said.
Rose was stunned.
Her eyes swept over the mountain of cash.
She had not used a bank card for the transaction, presumably to deliberately dispel my doubts. It was a gesture of utmost sincerity.
"I'd like to know the reason," Rose said.
"You can't know. And knowing would do you no good," Anna replied.
Rose pushed the money back to Anna. "Take it back. I won't leave Houston, unless he himself says he doesn't want me."
Anna said, "Dr. Marshall, have you ever really understood Houston? To be honest, he's not suitable for you."
Rose didn't understand Houston. She didn't know about his job or his family background. She only knew that he was passionately good to her.
But for Rose, who believed in love above all else, that was enough.
"I don't need to understand him," she said.
"Dr. Marshall, if you knew about him, you would regret not getting rid of him today. Today might be the only chance in your life to break free from him," Anna insisted.
Rose looked at her. "If you think you can buy my marriage with money, I suggest you save your effort."
Anna upped the ante, "Besides money, I can offer you the wealth and honor you desire. For instance, in this hospital, any position or fame you want, I can help you achieve."
Rose's face showed a flicker of shock.
I hate dealing with third parties in love. Unlike other women who could act coquettish or show weakness, I'm a straightforward, tough woman. That is why Ethan had been easily lured away by Vivian.
Now, with a rich woman eyeing Houston, I feel my position is precarious again. But then I thought, if Houston was as weak as Ethan and couldn't resist temptation, he wouldn't be worth fighting for.
