Lindsey hung up the phone under Zayn’s watchful gaze and pretended to be calm as she said, "I just told Aunt Wendy that I'm not going back tonight."
Zayn watched as the blush on Lindsey’s cheeks spread to her neck and the bitterness in his chest was suddenly swept away, leaving only sweetness.
Lindsey held onto Zayn tightly with both hands as she was afraid that he would run away. His scars that looked horrifying to others only made her heart ache.
Zayn did not bust her feigned calmness and nodded. He coughed lightly and teased her. “If I knew it earlier, I wouldn’t have asked the driver to send us here. I’ll ask the driver to come back and send you to a hotel.”
Hearing his words, Lindsey was dumbfounded and jerked her head up to look outside. She then saw that Zayn's driver had parked the car at Opal Suites.
Her reaction was so cute that Zayn unconsciously hooked his lips and finally could not help but laugh out loud.
Lindsey gently slapped him on the chest. "You played me!"
She pretended to be mad and turned to reach for the car door while muttering under her breath. Before she could touch the handle, the man hugged her from behind.
The man's eyes looked so deep in the dim light and looked like they were smiling, which made Lindsey drown in them. He was still smiling when he said, “You played me first!”
Zayn pinched Lindsey’s nose and looked at her with such a doting and gentle gaze. “Little vixen.”
When Lindsey found out that Zayn figured out she was just pretending to be drunk earlier, she did not deny it. She only grunted and said, “Someone didn’t wanna admit his identity first and even made me get hospitalized for three days...”
Lindsey blamed her pneumonia on Zayn, who frankly accepted it. His smile faded and he said seriously, “It’s all my fault. Have your wounds healed yet?”
She waved her palms in front of Zayn and whined, “I think it’s gonna leave a scar. Who’s going to take responsibility for this?”
The man raised his eyebrows and said in a deep voice, "I’ll take responsibility for you, always."
Even after being separated for six months and a year of misunderstanding each other, there was only love between them when they embraced each other again.
After Zayn’s driver parked the car, he tacitly left. Even with the partition between the front and back of the car, the driver still overheard Lindey’s cries and screams, so once he got out of the car, he quickly went far away for fear of being implicated.
Lindsey was no longer self-restrained and reached out to wrap her arms around Zayn's neck. She looked at him seriously as she said, "I wanna go to your place."
No one could resist their loved ones saying this. Although Zayn was still worried about his appearance, he took Lindsey back to where he lived.
The two of them got out of the car hand in hand, and at Lindsey's request, Zayn took off his gloves for the first time outside. The two of them pressed their palms together and interlocked their fingers.
However, he still wore his mask. Lindsey did not mind because she did not want Zayn to be judged by others.
All those curious gazes he received were probably not out of contempt or malice.
The two of them went in holding hands.
Luke’s apartment was opposite Zayn’s. Zayn knocked on Luke’s door on the way to his apartment and opened the door for Lindsey. Just then, Luke opened his door and gave a report to Zayn.
"Boss, Denarius said that they can’t finish the robots on time. I went to the manager today and he only told me that it was their boss’ order. Why don't we go and see Ms. Juhl? Not privately, but for business, you ought to meet her. Otherwise, how can we pay back the 500 million dollars that you owe? Also, if you’d just listen to my advice, Ms. Juhl is really..."
Zayn carried Lindsey over to the huge sofa in front of the TV and sat on the sofa while Lindsey laid in his arms. He then reached out and gently stroked her silky hair.
Before he opened his mouth, Lindsey sized him up with her glistening eyes and said, "Also, Felipe Jipson handed me a box of ashes. Whose was it? Mr. Guggenheim, you have one chance to defend yourself."
Lindsey immediately got up and pretended to be angry. "What?! You knew?"
Hearing Allie Wilford’s name seemed to pull Lindsey back to the dark days. That was the darkest summer of her life.
Seeing her expression change, Zayn said briefly, "I was hospitalized for a long time. After I woke up, I wanted to see you, so I asked Felipe's elder brother to lend me some money."
"To do business with Denarius?" Lindsey asked.
Zayn did not deny it and hesitantly said, "Mm, the treatment also cost a lot of money."
Lindsey was in disbelief. "You died for your country and Felipe Jipson didn't even apply for any government subsidies for you?"
Zayn knocked her head and said with gritted teeth, “Excuse me, your husband is still very much alive!”
