No one knew the struggle and pain this man felt. He hid in the shadows while silently guarding the only light of his life.
It seemed that Lindsey really liked Harvey Jiles. They went for lunch every day, and this continued until Friday.
Zayn just hid in his car across from Denarius every day and watched them leave and come back to the office happily. He consoled himself that he just wanted to witness her happiness.
He would leave eventually.
That day Harvey came a little later than usual. The Denarius lobby was already empty. The weather was not great. It was gray and gloomy and looked like it would snow soon.
Zayn was alone with his driver in the car as Luke had to deal with some business matters.
Harvey arrived much later than usual as he did not arrive until 4:00 pm. He also seemed to be different from the past.
This man truly aged like fine wine. He already looked a few years younger than his actual age, but today, his hairstyle made him look even younger.
The most eye-catching thing was the champagne-colored roses in his arms.
They were not as bold as the red roses, but they looked elegant and were more suitable for the current Lindsey.
It was Christmas Eve, and the weather did not dim the festive atmosphere on the street. On the contrary, it was more lively because the holiday fell on a weekend.
However, all the lights and decorations on the street were still not as eye-catching as the moment Lindsey walked out of Denarius.
Her makeup was very light, just enough to make her features look more exquisite and vivid. She wore a white knitted dress with a pink coat and looked so young like she had just graduated from college.
She dressed up so nicely for her date with Harvey Jiles.
This made Zayn's heart bitter and astringent, mixed with jealousy and anger.
He did not even know what he was angry about because he was the one who did not want to admit that he was Zayn. He was the one who left Lindsey behind. She finally let go of him and started a new life with a decent man, so he should be happy for her.
Was this not what he had been hoping for all along?
She should forget about him, start a new life, and start loving someone else!
However, the tearing sensation in his chest told him otherwise.
‘How is that man better than me?’
Zayn watched as Lindsey took the flowers, exchanged pleasantries with Harvey, then got into that man's car.
The gloomy sky outside seemed to reflect Zayn's mood. He looked at the direction Harvey's car had disappeared to, and for the first time, he did not sit still and wait for them to come back like he used to. Instead, he coldly ordered, "Follow them."
The driver had been used to Zayn's silence every day. When he heard Zayn telling him to follow them, he was stunned for a moment, then quickly started the car and chased after Harvey’s car that was almost out of sight.
The scenery outside the car window receded quickly. Zayn’s fingernails sunk into his palm and left deep red marks. It was not until the driver's voice came from the front that Zayn abruptly returned to his senses.
The driver said, "Boss, they stopped."
Lindsey was still mumbling. Looking at her now, she seemed like she would just pass out at any moment and she probably would not even know when she was carried away by someone.
She still refused. "I'm not drunk...I just feel a little uncomfortable...I wanna go home. Take me home."
"Get in the car first." In the dark, Zayn could already see Harvey’s ogling eyes. “Get in the car and we can talk about it, okay?”
As he said that, Harvey already brought Lindsey into his arms.
Zayn’s chest was heaving and did not even notice that he dug his fingernails into his palms.
Zayn used a lot of strength in that punch, especially with his anger. The effect was visible as Harvey kneeled on the ground and could not even straighten up his waist.
Hearing the voice, Harvey raised his head to look at Zayn. His cheeks were red and he was panting. "Who are you?"
Zayn did not want to babble on with Harvey and only glared at him viciously. He then picked Lindsey up and walked towards his car.
The champagne roses in Lindsey's arms fell to the ground and were crushed by Zayn's foot without mercy. They instantly turned into mush.
The elegance from that bouquet was a mere symbol.
