"Luke." The man who had not spoken suddenly raised his voice. His tone was unpleasant as he could not hide the anger in his voice.
Luke, who was sitting in the front, immediately answered.
"Send Mr. Jenner down." The man's voice was unforgiving.
Alfred Jenner hurriedly waved his hand, then nimbly opened the car door and jumped down as he said, "No, no, it's alright." He ran away faster than a rabbit.
When Luke saw Alfred's abject look, he almost laughed out loud.
"Investigate it." The man's voice suddenly sounded behind him, which scared Luke to hastily regain composure. "Yes, sir."
Lindsey did not lie to Alfred. She really went on a date, and it looked like that date was very good.
"Boss." Luke handed the tablet in his hand to his boss. "This is the basic information of the man who went out with Ms. Juhl today."
The man in front of him did not take it but turned his head to look out the window from a high floor. He was expressionless. "You read it."
Luke smiled stiffly and reported, "Harvey Jiles, the founder and CEO of the Jiles Corporation. He is thirty-seven years old and a trust fund kid who doesn’t rely on his family. He’s divorced with a seven-year-old child. He’s funny with no bad habits and has a steady character. His reputation in the industry has always been excellent."
The man with his back turned to him did not respond at all, so Luke turned the page on the screen to show a secretly taken photo.
"Ms. Juhl and Mr. Jiles looked like they had a good talk and ate together. Mr. Jiles even opened the car door for Ms. Juhl and watched her leave before he left." After Luke added this information, he silently backed up and felt like he was too bold.
The man with his back to him slowly turned his head. His gaze swept over the tablet which landed on Lindsey's bright smile, and he was a little lost in thought. After a long time, he finally said, "Leave."
Luke sighed silently in his heart, then turned to leave with the tablet in hand.
He had just taken a few steps when he suddenly heard the man behind him say, "You can send over her car keys tomorrow." He initially wanted to give it to her personally, but there was no way he could meet her again.
When the room was empty, the man by the window slowly lifted his hands and looked at the scars on them with disgust.
‘How hideous!’ He thought.
The next day, Luke went to Denarius to deliver the key to Lindsey around lunchtime.
To his surprise, Lindsey met him personally and expressed her gratitude when she heard that he had found her car keys at the hotel. She did not mention Mr. Cooper, nor did she show the slightest abnormality.
Seeing Lindsey like this, Luke could not imagine that this was the same woman who cried and told his boss not to leave that night.
Luke sighed in his heart. Lindsey's appearance in the past two days had constantly reshaped his impression of her.
Lindsey walked Luke to the door, where the two of them exchanged pleasantries and shook hands. Luke then turned and walked towards the elevator.
At this moment, Lindsey's secretary's voice suddenly sounded behind him, "Ms. Juhl, you have a lunch appointment with Mr. Jiles later. Should I arrange a car for you?"
Lindsey's very recognizable voice sounded immediately after, "No need, he just called me and said he’ll come and pick me up."
He could not see the look on the man's face behind him, nor could he see his deep eyes, but he strangely felt the struggle and pain in Zayn.
Zayn wanted to live so that he could stand in front of Lindsey. That was how he escaped from the hellfire and came back to life.
If his willpower to come back and see her again was not that strong, he would probably have been a pile of dry bones by now.
Zayn could not remember what the doctor said exactly back then. He only knew that with his physical condition at the time, skin implant was very risky and that he would likely die in surgery. Thus, he did not insist on it.
Zayn once thought that he would be content to just watch her from afar.
However, he forgot that there was no end to desire. She was his desire. Her voice and her smile were both his struggle and hope.
He wanted to go out and return to her, to answer her call, to continue to be her Zayn. However, he was so ugly that even he could not bear to look at himself, so how could he make her accept him?
Every nerve in him was screaming in pain. Every inch of him was overflowing with desire. He missed her!
However, the thought of embracing her in this skin was too cruel.
It was better to let that handsome, spirited Zayn that she loved die completely in that fire.
