Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 717

The man beside Lindsey visibly paused for a moment, but it was a short pause before he quickly returned to his state of casual conversation just now and returned a faint "mm".

Mrs. Wendy sighed imperceptibly, not knowing exactly what she was lamenting about.

Mr. Cooper seemed to be interested in this community-organized, modest competition for the elderly. After he sat down, he did not leave and exchanged a few words with Lindsey and Mrs. Wendy from time to time. He was polite but was not overly curious or close.

After the competition, it was already evening. Mrs. Wendy was very nervous to show off her cooking skills in front of others as a performance, so she was not in her element. Luckily, her food was delicious, so she won a big red Certificate of Honor.

Mrs. Wendy was laughing as she held the Certificate of Honor that looked to be from the nineties. In the meantime, Lindsey took the opportunity to add the contact information of several old men and women who came to talk to Mrs. Wendy on her phone.

"What are you doing?" When Lindsey was saving their numbers one by one, Mr. Cooper's voice suddenly rang in her ears.

Perhaps it was because of his extraordinarily deep voice, these words simply sounded like he whispered into Lindsey's ear which made her shudder subconsciously.

Lindsey quietly shifted to the side a little and looked up at Mr. Cooper’s hidden eyes behind those impenetrable sunglasses. It was then that she realized they were sitting quite close to each other.

"Nothing." She shook the phone in her hand and said somewhat unnaturally, "I’m just helping the child's grandmother to expand her social circle."

Mr. Cooper saw the seriousness in her eyes and let out a soft “oh” after a long time.

Lindsey knew that her behavior was probably a bit strange to others, but she did not care at all.

Mr. Cooper did not wait until Mrs. Wendy and a few old friends finished talking before he politely left.

Lindsey noticed that this man always seemed to retreat before everyone else and appear the next time when no one was expecting him.

Since it was already late, Lindsey took Mrs. Wendy and Dezi to have dinner before rushing home.

Unlike the excitement on the way to the competition, Dezi was surprisingly silent on the way back home. Lindsey could not help but look back several times. Finally, she could not hold back and asked while she stopped at a red light. "Dezi?"

Dezi returned to his senses. The streetlights left dim shadows on his face. His eyes were puzzled as he looked at Lindsey.

"What's wrong with you?" Lindsey softened her voice. She could feel that something was wrong with Dezi since noon.

Hearing her question, Dezi froze for a moment. Dismay and confusion flashed under his eyes.

He put his hand on Lindsey’s seat which was his subconscious action when he sought assurance. When Lindsey reached out to shake his hand, Dezi said in a childish voice, "Mommy, Uncle Cooper looks like Daddy."

Something in Lindsey’s mind exploded.

Lindsey's eyes widened abruptly. Before she had time to refute, Dezi said aggrievedly, "When I first saw Uncle Cooper, I thought that he looked like Daddy. But the way he speaks and walks, and even his tone was so different from Daddy. Mommy...I miss Daddy..."

Mommy, I miss Daddy.

This was the first time that Dezi told her that he missed Zayn since Zayn’s death. The childish voice was like a blunt knife that sawed through Lindsey’s heart and made her blood flow out profusely.

Under the streetlight, Dezi’s eyes turned watery.

Dezi mentioned it first. He was lying on the bed, and Lindsey was holding his hand while she held a storybook in the other.

"Mommy, why haven't I seen Uncle Cooper before?" Dezi’s body was fully covered up to his chin. His round eyes were wide open without any intention of sleep.

"That’s because Mommy just met Uncle Cooper, who is a partner at Daddy's company." Lindsey’s eyelashes trembled slightly as she looked at Dezi's eyes that were so soft.

Dezi nodded with some understanding and asked again, "Mommy, will you find me another Daddy?"

Lindsey tilted her head. From such an angle, she could take in all of Dezi's reactions from top to bottom.

"Dezi, you only have one Daddy," Lindsey said, "Alright, go to sleep. You have school tomorrow."

Although Lindsey did not give a direct answer, Dezi could hear her unfinished words. His hidden worries seemed to be quelled.

After that night, it was the start of a new week.

Since Lindsey slept late last night, she came in later than usual. When she arrived at the office early in the morning, Emilia said that someone was waiting for her in the meeting room.

“His name is Mr. Cooper and he said that he ordered a batch of products from our company.”
