Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 714

This was the fourth or fifth time that Lindsey and Mr. Cooper shook hands. Lindsey still could not figure it out in the short moment of their hands touching what was different about a seemingly ordinary handshake. However, the warm and soft leather somehow gave her a different feeling.

The deal that she thought would go down the drain was inexplicably closed successfully, so Lindsey was in a good mood. After sending Mr. Cooper away, she lifted her chin at the several employees present and said in a pleasant tone, "Everyone involved in this case will get an extra day off this month and an additional $500 on top of your original bonus."

The staff’s eyes suddenly lit up. Lindsey lifted her hand to look at her watch. "It's getting late, so you guys can go home directly if you want since it’s a Friday. Have a good weekend!"

Amidst the cascade of "thank you, Ms. Juhl", Lindsey smiled and turned to walk towards the roadside parking.

She decided to give herself a chance to leave early today. Dezi was already done with school, so she picked him up and went home to pick up Mrs. Wendy before they went out for dinner together in the evening.

Lindsey rarely took Dezi out to eat for the simple reason that it was not only unhealthy, but it was also not necessarily as good as Mrs. Wendy’s cooking.

However, probably because she closed a big deal today and was in a good mood, she took her phone out of her bag and dialed Mrs. Wendy's number as she walked.

"Hey, it's me." Lindsey walked under the sunlight spilling through the French sycamore tree branches on the roadside. She looked relaxed and comfortable, which was rare lately. "You haven't cooked yet, right? Don't cook tonight. Let's go out for dinner."

Mrs. Wendy was just about to start preparing the salmon she just bought from the supermarket. When she heard this, she stopped her actions and laughed as she said, “Did you close another deal again?”

The hem of Lindsey's white coat moved slightly in the wind and her high heels made a crisp sound with the ground. She did not conceal her mood. She rubbed the tip of her nose and laughed lightly as she joked, "Yup, I made us some money, so let's go eat something delicious!"

Mrs. Wendy was laughing silently. Although there was enough warmth at home, Mrs. Wendy’s smile gradually faded and her gaze darkened.

She did not hear the rest of Lindsey’s words. After the call ended, Mrs. Wendy finally returned to her senses and let out a long sigh.

There were only two situations in which Lindsey was happy these days. One of them was when Dezi played with her and deliberately made her laugh. There was also another kind when Lindsey closed a new business deal for Denarius.

Mrs. Wendy’s back was slightly hunched from all the years of hard work. She never asked Lindsey why, but she could catch a glimpse of the truth.

Perhaps Lindsey herself was unaware that the times she was really happy were getting lesser.

‘When would such days end?’ Mrs. Wendy thought. Her hands were wet from handling the fish. The dark brown spots on the backs of her hands made her look old and her hands were also quite puffy like the elderly.

How many more years could she live? How much longer could she be with them?

Suddenly, her mind flashed back to the day when she inadvertently caught a glimpse of a man wearing all black.

The one who was most excited about dinner was Dezi, who showed great anticipation the moment Lindsey picked him up.

He kept asking Lindsey questions. "Mommy, what is a hot pot?"

Lindsey pondered for a moment before she said, "Well, it's a pot that is boiled over the stove."

Lindsey looked down and quickly picked some items from the menu, then handed the menu to Mrs. Wendy and Dezi a few moments later.

Mrs. Wendy was not used to ordering Chinese food and pushed the menu to Dezi.

A spicy and fragrant aroma floated in the air. Lindsey asked the boss who looked astonished, "Do you have an apron?"

"Ah, yes, yes." The boss turned around and went to the counter to grab three aprons, then came back out.

Lindsey actually just asked casually as she wanted to take pictures of Dezi in an apron, but she did not expect to startle the boss and suddenly felt like laughing.

Dezi pointed at a few items on the menu, but he was restrained and did not order too much. Soon after, he returned the menu to the boss and politely said, “Thank you, Mister.”

The boss was more than fifty years old and felt like an old man. When he heard such a cute and young voice of a child, he was immediately overjoyed.

When the boss left, Dezi looked at the hole in the middle of the table and reached out to touch it. "Mommy, why is this table like this?"

"It’s for the pot later," Lindsey explained casually.

Dezi nodded like he understood and looked around curiously. This was the first time he ate in such an environment.
