Until he got into the car, Alfred still could not figure out what Mr. Cooper was mad about when he was joking with Lindsey earlier.
‘Could it be that Mr. Cooper likes Ms. Juhl?’
He somehow understood and suddenly thought back to the phone call he received from Mr. Cooper’s assistant last night. Luke’s voice always seemed to be pleasant, but he spoke in a strong and unquestionable tone.
"Mr. Jenner, I saw that the Denarius team didn't eat much tonight, so I took it upon myself to help them book room service from the hotel, but as you know, we’re not familiar with their team. So although it’s our good intention, I’m afraid that they wouldn’t accept it if it’s coming from Mr. Cooper. Mr. Jenner, can you tell them that you ordered it instead?"
‘Why would Luke order food for Lindsey's team on his own? It must be Mr. Cooper's orders, but why should Mr. Cooper be concerned whether the partners ate enough at dinner? This was clearly not in the contract!’
Thinking of this, Alfred’s eyes immediately glowed, but since they were in the car, no one could see his current look.
They chose a restaurant that served Salem City’s local specialties. After pondering in the car, Alfred could not stop looking at Lindsey and Mr. Cooper after he got out of the car.
Since the two of them met each other for the first time yesterday, it meant that this was love at first sight for Mr. Cooper. No wonder Mr. Cooper took Alfred’s seat when Alfred introduced them to each other. ‘Come to think of it, all of Mr. Cooper's strange behavior yesterday made sense now!’
Mr. Cooper suddenly left, probably because Mr. Cooper did not want him to drink with Ms. Juhl.
The more Alfred thought about it, the more he felt that this was true, and his excitement was almost too much to suppress.
Thus, at lunch, Lindsey noticed that Alfred had arranged for her and Mr. Cooper to sit beside each other again.
The man's presence was so strong that Lindsey could not help but stiffen her body the moment she sat down.
Lindsey finally could not hold back from asking the question she kept to herself along the way. She looked at Mr. Cooper’s side profile with puzzled eyes and furrowed brows as she asked, “Mr. Cooper, have we met before?”
For ease of communication, Luke sat on Mr. Cohen's right side while Alfred sat opposite them.
As soon as Lindsey asked her question, there was a clear silence at the table.
The man sitting next to Lindsey was completely in her view. His gloved fingers moved slightly.
That movement was so quick that Lindsey almost thought it was her illusion.
Under Lindsey's gaze, Mr. Cooper also looked back at her, then he moved very slightly to shake his head.
Lindsey did not even notice that she had been holding her breath. Suddenly, she exhaled deeply, but she suddenly felt an inexplicable bitterness in her mouth.
She just nodded and responded softly. "Mr. Cooper, sometimes I feel that you’re very much like my...old friend." After that, she pursed her lips and smiled faintly, then turned her head away.
The sadness that crossed her eyes was too strong, and she did not want others to see it.
No one could see the heartache and love that flowed from the bottom of Mr. Cooper's eyes hidden beneath those sunglasses, which became a secret known only to him.
After a few seconds, he tapped his fingers gently on the table.
"My boss has just returned to the States not long ago. Perhaps you both bumped into each other somewhere before." With a smile on his face, Luke explained as he looked at Lindsey.
Lindsey’s hand that was holding a glass of water paused mid-air as the glass touched her lips. She looked at Emilia with a puzzled gaze. “What do you mean by weird?”
Emilia’s brows were furrowed. “I don’t know exactly, but when we were having lunch just now, Mr. Jenner would look at you, then at Mr. Cooper, and his gaze was just really weird.”
Emilia was afraid that Lindsey would think that she had some ulterior motive, so her nervous palms were clenched even tighter.
"It's okay." Lindsey did not think much about it. She also stood up and wanted to pull Emilia to take a seat when the doorbell suddenly rang.
Lindsey smiled helplessly. "It seems that I have quite a few guests today."
Emilia did not know what to say and smiled as well.
"Wait here," Lindsey told her to wait and pushed the water on the table towards her before she walked away.
The one standing at the door was the hotel staff.
Of course, it was not the same one who delivered her food last night.
Lindsey opened the door. "Is something wrong?"
