Lindsey still had a dumbfounded look on her face that had not receded, but her fingers were already reaching for the document on the table.
Her nails were well-manicured with only a thin layer of simple nail polish without any ornaments, which hid the lack of blood underneath.
Quentin noticed Lindsey's strange behavior and tilted his head to look at her several times while she read the documents. He noticed Lindsey’s paleness and fatigue that even her makeup could not hide, then asked with some concern, "What's wrong? Why do you look so tired?"
"I’m fine." Lindsey moved her neck and was still focused on the document in her hand. She turned a page before she said, "I just didn't sleep well, and I received a weird phone call this morning."
"What phone call?" Quentin frowned and his manly eyebrows were raised.
He rarely smiled lately. This way, Lindsey could hardly see a hint of his former self.
Finally, Lindsey finished reading the document and looked up. It was a good day outside, which was rare these days. The sun was shining without any clouds blocking it. Even the fog was gone.
Lindsey was still wearing her black coat that she had not taken off yet and a pair of black heels. Since it was a few inches tall, she did not have to tilt her head too much to look at Quentin and could see that he looked wary.
"It's fine." Lindsey turned around and sat down, then gestured for Quentin to sit as well before he exhaled deeply. "It's just an unfamiliar number and no one spoke when the call was connected. That person hung up after a while, so it was probably a wrong number."
As she said that, she lowered her carefully drawn thick eyelashes to cover the serious look in her eyes.
Quentin still did not look relieved and his brows did not relax at all. "Send me that phone number. I’ll get someone to track it down. You should also bring two bodyguards with you next time."
The two of them discussed this many times, and Quentin just did not understand why Lindsey refused to take a driver to and from work. However, since Lindsey insisted, he did not force her and used this opportunity to bring up this old topic.
Lindsey sighed at the bottom of her heart and could feel Quentin’s changes after Zayn and Soren’s death more than anyone else.
He became very insecure, not for himself, but for the people around him. Only Lindsey knew that Quentin had arranged at least dozens of people around Dezi’s school to protect him.
Moreover, with Quentin’s current temperament, the previous Quentin seemed to be never coming back. He smiled less and kept forcing himself to expand Denarius as if he was fulfilling someone else's wish. Although this was also what Lindsey hoped for, Lindsey missed having the former Quentin more.
The only time Quentin relaxed was when he was facing them, those who were close to Zayn and Soren back then.
Lindsey recalled that when she invited Quentin home for Thanksgiving dinner, Quentin's eyes suddenly turned red as he ate the turkey Mrs. Wendy made.
He had spread himself too thin.
Lindsey finally knew why Quentin's face was so glum from the moment she walked in the door.
Tencello was a good-for-nothing.
Although they were furious, since things had progressed to this stage, they could only send a representative to check it out.
Back then, Lindsey and Quentin discussed this Tencello resort project with Denarius' other senior management. All of them agreed that this was a sure-fire deal. If the problem could be resolved as soon as possible, it was still possible to salvage this.
"Thursday?" Lindsey looked at her schedule. Recently, Denarius had several projects starting at the same time, plus they also transferred some trusted personnel to their German branch, so the ones who could make this trip in this office were the two of them.
"I have an appointment with Evans Corporation on Thursday and Friday to discuss the youth apartments." Quentin shrugged his shoulders and said helplessly, "You can go for that while I go to Salem City."
Lindsey hurriedly waved her hand. "Forget it, it’s better if I go to Salem City."
With this business trip set, Lindsey spent the whole day studying this project again. She had two overseas conference calls and arranged to bring along several people from the Planning Department and the Public Relations Department.
