Lindsey raised her hand and gently knocked on the door of the ward. A moment later, a female caregiver came over and opened the door.
When she saw Lindsey, she was stunned, but she quickly noticed Yvette beside Lindsey and said with a smile, "Ms. Wendell, you're here."
Yvette also smiled at her and said, "Mm, we'll watch over Sieben for now, you can take a rest."
The nurse heard this and hurriedly left. This time, the patient she was assigned to was easy to serve, and her employer was also so good-tempered. She felt really lucky.
Lindsey made a mental preparation before she pushed the door open and walked into the ward. She was prepared for the worst, but when she pushed the door open, she saw Sieben’s back facing her.
Sieben laid quietly on the bed with her back to the door, breathing lightly and looking as if she was sound asleep, so Lindsey let out a sigh of relief.
Lindsey went up to help Sieben with the covers and stood quietly by the bed for a while as she watched Sieben's sleeping face before she left with Yvette.
After the door of the ward closed gently, the girl lying on the bed opened her trembling eyes. The bottom of those eyes was watery and misty. Tears smashed down on her pillow slowly, which were quickly absorbed and disappeared.
She bit her lower lip to keep herself from making a sound. In this empty silence, she let her emotions run wild.
Nurses walked through the corridor of the hospital from time to time. Lindsey did not go back to her ward immediately but stopped in front of the window at the end of the corridor. From this angle, the sunlight outside the window shone on her, but she just felt strange and empty.
"How’s the situation outside?" Lindsey looked into the distance that became a blur to her and suddenly asked this question.
In fact, the light from this window was not as great as the window inside Lindsey’s ward.
Yvette stayed by Lindsey's side and shook her head. "It's pretty bad."
The news of Zayn's unfortunate death in the explosion leaked out somehow, and those people were just waiting to see how Denarius would survive without Zayn Guggenheim. Many of them were already making discreet moves.
Yvette looked at the dust floating around in the sunlight. Her voice was clear as she tried to comfort the fragile person in front of her. “Shaun and my brother will help stabilize the situation. Quentin holds a lot of shares and was trusted by Zayn, so he’s quite respected in Denarius. If outsiders wanted to touch Denarius, they still had to think about it carefully. I’m just afraid that there will be chaos within Denarius itself.”
Lindsey nodded, signaling that she knew.
"In my current state, I can be discharged from the hospital, right?" Although it was a question, Lindsey had an affirmative tone.
Yvette understood what Lindsey meant in an instant and her face lit up with joy. "I asked the doctor, after another full body checkup, you should be able to get discharged if there are no problems."
Looking at Yvette’s face that was exhausted yet delighted, Lindsey suddenly felt like crying, but it was not from sadness. She was just touched.
Besides Yvette, many people were waiting for her to pull herself together.
Lindsey needed to take on the responsibility of their child, Zayn's business empire, and Sieben's future, so she could not fall. Mrs. Wendy was staying in the downstairs ward alone. When Lindsey went in, Mrs. Wendy was sitting on the hospital bed lost in thought.
There was a beautiful view outside. The weather was good. The sky was a beautiful blue and artfully dotted with a few clouds. It was so pure and natural.
"Aunt Wendy..." Lindsey took two steps forward. She was afraid of disturbing Mrs. Wendy, so her voice was small. "How are you feeling?"
Mrs. Wendy suddenly looked back at Lindsey as if she had just awakened from a dream. It took a few seconds for her eyes to focus to see who was standing in front of her.
"Lindsey..." Mrs. Wendy was wearing the same style of hospital gown as Lindsey, but she seemed to have aged several years in just a few days. She looked so tired and worn out.
Lindsey cried out what burdened her heart. Mrs. Wendy and Lindsey hugged each other and the two of them shed enough tears for their lifetimes.
When people talk about breaking up with their first love, others always said it was best to cry it out and it would get better. However, after experiencing so much, nothing could make such deeply etched pain fade.
Every day, countless people were going through the same loss. Who knew when it would be their turn?
Lindsey’s self-blame was at its peak. She just felt that if she had not fallen into Ann’s trap, Zayn and Soren, and even Sieben, would not have to sacrifice themselves to save her.
However, she neglected the fact that if she had not gone there, Zayn and Soren probably would not even have had the chance to say goodbye and would have left their world just like that.
No one could blame her, and she had no right to take all the blame herself.
Ann had already replayed that scenario in her mind countless times. For someone whose mind was filled with revenge, no one could have predicted her thoughts.
She had been thrown into the fire by Zayn and was burned into a faceless monster, so she wanted to make everyone she hated suffer the same fate as her.
Ann even buried the explosives in the ground long ago and had been waiting for their visit.
If it was not for Zayn and Soren who desperately tried to send her and Sieben out, and desperately tried to stop Ann to let them escape, Lindsey would have probably been trapped under those burned ruins.
They exchanged their lives for them, hoping that they could live well.
Since they were gone, she could only carry out their last wish in their honor.
