Forced Into Marriage: My Husband’s Too Mean novel Chapter 68

Lindsey pretended to be very distressed, so Zayn looked at her again and did not probe further.

Mrs. Wendy made a beef stew for dinner. She had instructed the maids to be careful when bringing it to the table because it was still scalding hot. At the table, Zayn casually helped Lindsey to a portion of the beef stew. Lindsey was absent-minded and took a spoonful without waiting for it to cool.

"OMG! Young Madam..." Mrs. Wendy saw it from the side and hurriedly went forward.

Unexpectedly, the man beside her reacted faster and reached out to slap away the spoon. In a haste, the stew splashed over his purlicue.

His hand quickly turned red.

"Lindsey Juhl, do you not want your tongue?" Zayn yelled.

"I'm sorry," Lindsey mumbled. She did not refute and quickly got up to ask the maid to get the burn ointment.

Even Mrs. Wendy could see that something was wrong with Lindsey’s disoriented look. As she rinsed Zayn's hand with some cold water, she asked, "Young Madam, is there something wrong?"

Zayn did not say anything, but his eyes gradually sank.

After helping Zayn treat his wound, the two of them ate hastily. Zayn then stood up to go to the study.

"Zayn." Lindsey looked at the man's back and could not help but call out his name.

Zayn turned back impatiently as Lindsey looked at him and said, "You're injured. You’re still working?"

"I won’t die from this." Zayn coldly snorted. Perhaps he was mad at her.

Her childhood memories frequently surfaced in Lindsey's mind. Even Zayn as a child appeared several times, but the little boy's looks have long been blurred. However, the feelings she had for him were still there.

Lindsey looked at Zayn and thought that fate was a funny thing. They grew apart after all those years only to meet each other again, but they were star-crossed lovers.

She sighed and averted her gaze.

Zayn went into the study. The annoyance on his face turned into a dark gloom.

Lindsey’s guess was right. Stephanie would not give up so easily if she did not get the money.

The next morning, Lindsey went to the office and was relieved that there were no banners.

However, she still could not avoid what was to come.

During their lunch break when everyone was resting in the office, Stephanie and Henry came to the Hemera office lobby again.

"I want to see Lindsey Juhl. Ask her to come down now." Stephanie had changed out of her branded clothes today, so the receptionist did not recognize her. Even though Stephanie had a bad attitude, the receptionist asked patiently, "May I ask who you are?"

"I'm her mother!" Stephanie roared back. Her loud voice made others stop in their tracks as they looked over in her direction.

The thought of $20 million made Stephanie irrational. She did not care for manners. Was it more important than money? Besides, no one knew that she was the former Madam Juhl.

After considering this, Stephanie simply grabbed the receptionist and wailed.

“Lindsey Juhl is such an ungrateful child. She married a rich man and forgot all about the parents that raised her. Even though she’s adopted, we’ve still spent a lot of effort to raise her for so many years. But she even said that she doesn’t have parents like us...What have I done wrong?”

While she said that, she squeezed out a few fake tears. Since it was lunchtime, the people nearby just stood by to watch the drama.

The receptionist quickly called the Consulting Department. In the meantime, she sent a message to the company's group chat which read, “The main character appeared at the office lobby. The show’s about to begin!”

Last night, Lindsey did not get a wink of sleep. She finally fell asleep after a wild night with Zayn. At the moment, she was so sleepy that she took a nap at her desk.
