Lindsey could already picture how it would look after Yvette and Shaun got married. Callum, as Shaun’s brother-in-law, would probably get jealous every day, but there was nothing he could do.
After lunch, Yvette and Callum went back to their office while Lindsey and Shaun went back together. Lindsey then asked Shaun about the incident yesterday.
"It's nothing, Lydia just made a mistake at work, so I demoted her. The notice will be sent out in two days," Shaun explained it vaguely because he did not want Lindsey to worry about it.
Lindsey thought, ‘No wonder…’ Back then, Lydia had always been pressured by the Head of the Consulting Department, but after Shaun’s restructuring, Lydia was finally promoted, but it had only been a short while before she got demoted again, so it was understandable for her to look so glum.
Thinking about what happened this morning, Lindsey still felt upset.
In the afternoon, there was a meeting with the staff from Evans Corporation, so Lindsey started to prepare for the meeting.
Since Jess was dismissed and the company did not allocate a new assistant for her for the time being, Lindsey had to do all these herself. The good thing was that Lindsey usually did not have the habit of relying on others, so she did these with ease.
Recently, Arthur arranged for a research team to be in Hemera and someone to help them with their development in the Danish market. This was a good start, but the follow-up workload for this was huge.
After all, it involved two big corporations, and Hemera was completely unfamiliar with this field, so everything needed time.
At the meeting, Lindsey first listened to the talk given by the representative of Evans Corporation and gave a few constructive comments. After that, she talked about the current status of the project and the problems they had, then did a risk assessment before the meeting was officially adjourned.
The meeting was much more tiring than doing deskwork in her office. Lindsey rubbed her neck as she walked out of the meeting room while thinking about the remaining tasks for the day.
"Ms. Juhl." Someone behind her called out to her.
Lindsey turned around and saw a beautiful woman with fair skin and long legs from Evans Corporation who was one of the core members of this joint development project between the two companies.
Lindsey was very impressed with this woman because of her ability. Lindsey felt that if she were to compete against her, she would be the one being beaten.
With a smile on her face, Lindsey responded politely. "Do you have more questions?"
The woman smiled slightly and took out a sealed envelope, then handed it to Lindsey with both hands. "The President asked me to give this to you."
The yellow envelope was well sealed. Hearing that it was from Arthur, Lindsey looked surprised and asked again to make sure, "Your boss told you to give this to me?"
The woman nodded affirmatively and her smile was unchanged. "Yes."
Lindsey reached out and took it, then thanked the woman. She stared at the large envelope in her hand for some time.
She thought, "Is this a cheque or something? Is he trying to pay me a large sum to give up custody of Dezi?’
However, Lindsey felt the envelope and knew it was not cash. The envelope was too thin to hold so much cash, and it was too big for it to be a cheque that could be exchanged at a bank.
Amused by her own thoughts, Lindsey returned to her office. She sat at her desk and carefully opened the seal.
There were three sheets of A4 paper inside. Lindsey took them out and saw that they were all DNA test results from three reputable hospitals in Atlantic City.
Arthur and Dezi’s names were written at the top. Arthur did not insist on using the name “Aksel Evans” and used “Dezi Juhl” instead.
Lindsey looked over each of them carefully. In the results section, all of them invariably said the same thing. "These two individuals are likely to have a close kinship." Three different hospitals issued the same DNA test results.
Seeing that his attitude softened a little, Sieben immediately began to try her luck. She tugged on the corner of Soren's shirt and shook it constantly. "Please, just one little piece of fried chicken...everything here is so f*cking bland!"
"No swearing!" Soren reminded her in an instant.
Sieben immediately kept quiet.
Lindsey then stepped forward and stroked Sieben's head that was wrapped in gauze. "Do you feel better today?"
Sieben had a bitter face and said without hesitation, "No, I can't get better if I'm not allowed to eat fried chicken!"
The two people beside the bed looked at each other, both seeing helplessness in each other's eyes.
Lindsey deliberately made a stern face. "Do you not want to get better? Stop crying for fried chicken! Wait till this thing gets removed, then we’ll talk."
Sieben looked aggrieved and crossed her arms. She then stretched out her index finger and pointed at Lindsey. "Lindsey, you don't love me anymore! You won’t even let me have a tiny piece of chicken..."
Lindsey took a deep breath, laughed, and stepped back, then she pushed Soren forward. "You deal with it...I’m out of ideas..."
Soren’s head was about to explode. Sieben was not even scared of him now. When she was mentally five years old, Soren could still scare her a little, but now, she was simply fearless.
This little vixen really had a good grip on him that he could not do anything to her.
Soren put down the lunchbox in his hand with an angry face. "If you don’t wanna eat, then don't eat!"
