Lindsey did not have to think too much about it, especially when Zayn was around. She put on her seatbelt and wanted to bury her head in her knees. Her cheeks and neck were red with embarrassment.
Luckily, Zayn turned off the lights inside the car and was concentrating on the road, so he did not notice the change in Lindsey's expression.
Zayn’s influence on her was too strong. The disappointment and sadness that arose because of Jess earlier faded. Lindsey even laughed at herself. It was not the first time being betrayed by someone close to her anyway.
"Why are you burying your head so low?" Zayn could not help but glance at Lindsey from time to time. Finally, he could not help but ask her.
Perhaps Lindsey felt guilty, she jerked her head. Her reaction was so big that it looked very abrupt. The corners of her lips moved and she looked out the window to avert her gaze. "I didn’t."
Zayn glanced at her again and did not intend to argue with her.
He drove at a good speed and pondered for a moment, probably thinking how he should phrase it.
Lindsey waited for him to speak while she pretended to look out the window. Her fingers were fidgeting the black leather seat beneath her as she tried to ease her mental turmoil.
After a long time, just as Lindsey was getting tired of looking at the traffic lights and streetlights, Zayn finally spoke, “Did Quentin tell you what happened?”
Lindsey stopped fidgeting and shook her head. “No, he just showed me the surveillance recording.”
‘Good, I guess I can give Quentin a couple of days off,’ Zayn thought as an understanding flashed in the bottom of his eyes. He looked surprised and said, "Mm."
In fact, after watching a portion of the surveillance recording, Lindsey could already figure out what happened.
The surveillance footage was from inside the conference hall where Lindsey was sitting in the corner.
The camera captured the moment the waiter put a glass of champagne next to Lindsey and walked away after giving Jess a look. Jess then nodded at him.
Zayn’s people had already investigated that this waiter was also involved and drugged Lindsey's champagne beforehand.
If Lindsey did not take the initiative to drink it, Jess would find a way to make her drink it.
Who knew that Arthur and Quentin suddenly appeared, which made things much easier for Jess because Lindsey unknowingly finished her glass of champagne by herself.
After thinking about it, Lindsey still asked the question that had been on her mind, "How did you come so...so timely...and even reported this to the police?"
Lindsey wanted to ask how he appeared so quickly, but somehow, she changed her words at the last minute even though they had the same meaning.
Zayn was concentrating on the road and did not seem to notice Lindsey’s reaction. In fact, his attention was on Lindsey. When he heard that, he moved his fingers slightly and said, “I initially called you to ask when I can bring Dezi out for a meal, but I called you three times and you never answered.”
He did not tell her the rest of it, but the meaning was clear. After calling her three times without getting an answer, he was worried about her safety and found out that she was at the Pine Hotel.
Lindsey let out a soft "oh". Her heart was torn for a long time, but she still managed to squeeze out a sentence, "Thank you."
Out of so many people, why was Dale Wagner interested in Lindsey? He even drugged her just so that he could kidnap her. When Zayn thought about who was behind this, his grip on the steering wheel unconsciously tightened.
Lindsey could feel the coldness in Zayn’s tone, so she stopped talking. After a while, she thought of something else and said, “You called my brother and told him what happened?”
This time, Zayn’s gaze that had been focused in front turned to her. He found that she was just purely curious. He nodded slightly and replied, "After all, this involves his employees, so he has the right to know."
This was not at all like Zayn's usual style. When did he ever consider if others had the right to know something?
After he said that, Zayn himself felt a little uncomfortable, but he did not tell Lindsey that Shaun’s “right to know” was just him telling Shaun off not to get Lindsey to attend this sort of event in the future. Quentin was the one who told Shaun the full story later.
When Zayn was angry, he did not care who he was speaking to.
While they were talking, Lindsey’s phone that was in her bag rang. She picked it up. It was a call from Mrs. Wendy.
"Why aren’t you back yet?" Mrs. Wendy was very worried that Lindsey had not returned at this hour.
Lindsey then realized that she had forgotten to call Mrs. Wendy and quickly said, "I'm on the way home. I dropped by the hospital earlier." Mrs. Wendy was not aware of yesterday's incident, so Lindsey planned to keep it a secret.
After hanging up, Lindsey looked at the white phone in her hand.
