Zayn and Arthur glared at each other and fire erupted between them.
In the end, Lindsey managed to hail a cab and quickly got in with Dezi while the two men were staring at each other.
"Should someone who asked for a divorce and even has a new fiancée be so concerned about his ex-wife? Am I unaware of American culture? This is really baffling!" Arthur lifted his profound eyelids as his light brown eyes were tinted with faint mockery that was directed at Zayn.
Zayn had heard similar words from Shaun many times, but now that they came out of Arthur's mouth, they still felt harsh. It seemed that every man who appeared around Lindsey wanted to remind him of this fact!
He was very clear about this fact even without their constant reminders.
Zayn did not want to babble on with Arthur. He knew that with his current position, it would be wrong for him to say anything, and what he said last time was enough.
Seeing Zayn leave, the mockery under Arthur's eyes slowly dissipated.
Mrs. Wendy made two phone calls. The first was hung up by Lindsey. The second time she called, Lindsey picked up and simply said a few words without explaining too much on the phone.
When they entered the house, Lindsey was just about to change her shoes when Mrs. Wendy, who was sitting on the sofa, suddenly stood up from her seat. "What's going on? Where’s Sieben? Why isn't she answering her phone?"
Sieben was still in the hospital. Lindsey did not want to tell Mrs. Wendy over the phone because she was afraid that Mrs. Wendy would panic.
The wrinkles on Mrs. Wendy's face deepened. She looked anxious and scared, so Lindsey said,
“We were really unlucky and met a psycho in the park today. Sieben was pushed and she knocked into a tree, so she has a slight concussion.”
Lindsey tried to make it sound less serious, but Mrs. Wendy just slapped her thighs after hearing it. “How did you all run into a psycho? What about you and Dezi? Are you both alright?” As she said that, Mrs. Wendy went up to Dezi to examine him.
Lindsey hurriedly took her hand. "It's fine. We're both okay, don't worry."
Mrs. Wendy sighed and was still worried. “Then is Sieben alone at the hospital? I even made her favorite fried shrimp this afternoon. No, no, I must go and see her!"
Her body had shrunk with her age. She was so busy running around the house packing some things that Sieben might need. Lindsey wanted her to stop and had to raise her voice. "Soren’s watching her at the hospital. You're so old, so you shouldn’t work yourself up. I'll go with you early tomorrow morning. The doctor said that it’s just a mild concussion and nothing else."
Mrs. Wendy stopped running to the kitchen and paused for a few seconds. Suddenly, she raised her hand and rubbed her eyes while she sighed. "Sigh...this child really suffers too much..."
The fruits of Mrs. Wendy’s labor all afternoon were still warming up in the kitchen. Despite her lack of appetite, Lindsey still ate her share.
Old people usually liked to do more for their children, hoping to somehow prove that they were not an old wreck and that they would not give their children any trouble.
Sieben slept the entire evening and finally woke up in the middle of the night. Her gaze seemed to be a little out of focus at first, then it gradually converged on Soren's face.
Soren was so excited that he did not notice the momentary wariness in her eyes and the daze after seeing him.
"You’re awake?" Soren asked knowingly. He had a gentle light in his eyes that made Sieben feel immersed in it. "The doctor said that you might get dizzy and nauseous when you just wake up. It won't be very pleasant, but it’ll be fine soon. Do you want some water?"
Sieben subconsciously shook her head, then quickly nodded after she came to her senses. Soren dotingly squeezed her palm and got up to pour her a glass of warm water that had just the right temperature.
Once the man let go of her hand, Sieben’s heart suddenly felt a burst of relief, but at the same time, some unspoken sense of loss.
The usual Soren would have already noticed Sieben's abnormalities, but today after the emotional roller coaster he went through, he was just too happy to see Sieben awake. He even looked a little silly and less sharp. That was why he did not notice that Sieben was scrutinizing him once she woke up.
"Come on, be careful. You don’t need to move your head. I got you a straw. Sip it slowly, don't rush!" Soren put the glass of water to Sieben's lips, then pressed her shoulders down that were ready to sit up.
Sieben took a few sips. Something came to mind and the half of her face that was exposed gradually reddened.
Soren still teased her as usual. "Why didn’t you cry for a hug when you woke up? Wait...let me get the doctor on duty to come over and check up on you."
