Everyone froze in place and did not know why so many police suddenly arrived. Only Zayn let out a breath of relief and did not stop running inside. Rather, he sped up.
The police that Felipe Jipson brought with him got down from the car. Felipe glanced at those weapons with a dark face and said in a cold voice, "Take them away!"
In the bedroom.
Arthur looked at Lindsey sitting on the floor with a glum face for a few moments and grunted coldly. He then hurriedly went out of the bedroom with a few people behind him to see what was going on.
Lindsey held her throat and coughed hard for a while before she felt alive again.
She struggled to sit up and was still holding her neck, where the vague pain gave Lindsey a tangible sense that she was still alive.
After surveying the room's furnishings, Lindsey's eyes narrowed slightly.
The police moved quickly and followed Zayn into the villa, just in time to bump into the oncoming Arthur. Zayn's eyes were bloodshot and his fists were clenched, but he resisted the urge to punch Arthur and ran upstairs.
With the police here, Arthur could not do anything to Zayn. After all, this was the States, so he still had a lot to take into account.
When Lindsey stumbled out of the room, she saw Zayn in a mess and his eyes were bloodshot as he ran over.
Zayn saw Lindsey and stopped running, then he held the railing on the side for support as if his soul just left him.
"Zayn..." Lindsey’s voice was a little hoarse. Her vocal cords were compressed for so long and the pain was unbearable. Every word she uttered was torture.
Just as she called his name, the man who had just stopped moving ran to her. Zayn ran through the dozen-meter-long corridor in a few seconds. He came up to Lindsey and pulled her into his arms before she could react.
"Are you dumb?" Zayn's voice rang out in Lindsey's ear. His voice was slightly hoarse. When he saw Lindsey, Zayn was mad at her for not listening to him and for putting herself in danger. He was also mad at her for the torment she brought him repeatedly.
However, when he spoke, his voice carried fear and pain that he did not expect and only held her tighter in his arms.
After feeling that Lindsey was intact in his arms, Zayn’s tense heart finally settled in its rightful place.
Lindsey was caught off guard with this hug and forgot to struggle. Her eyes were red. The feeling of being on the verge of death was too much to bear and she believed that if the police had not come in time, she might have been strangled to death by Arthur.
‘Why struggle? Seeing Zayn now is a bonus...’ Lindsey thought. She slowly reached out and hugged the man back tightly as she let out a long breath.
The police siren outside destroyed the quietness of this neighborhood, but Lindsey only heard the sound of Zayn's heartbeat.
It was steady and powerful, which made her feel at ease.
After what she had just gone through, Lindsey felt that her throat was sore when she looked at him, but she still retorted. "Dezi is our son and you’re the one who snatched him away first."
Arthur wanted to say something else and opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, a police officer beside him suddenly pointed to the side of the villa. "What's going on over there?"
Everyone present looked up and saw that smoke was rising from one of the windows of the beautiful villa which looked like a work of art. It seemed that something had been set on fire.
That room was the bedroom that Arthur had arranged for Dezi. Just after they left, the last one to come out of that room was Lindsey.
The coldness on Arthur's face turned stormy for a moment and he glared at Lindsey viciously.
However, Lindsey was not afraid of him. There were still police officers present and she was not the least bit scared. She stepped forward to look into Arthur’s eyes as she smiled, revealing her pearly whites. "Mr. Arthur, this is my gift to you."
As she said that, she put one hand on her neck while she waved a silver lighter in her other hand in front of Arthur’s face.
After seeing Arthur’s stormy face and knowing that she had made him upset, Lindsey’s mood improved greatly. It was already noon. The sun was shining, but it was not blinding as it landed on their faces. Lindsey was beaming and that smile reached her eyes, which curved into a crescent shape, and Arthur could only see her dark-brown glimmering eyes that had a light in them.
No one ever stole from him, burned down his house, and dared to smile like this in front of him.
Arthur stared at the smile on that face and was extremely exasperated that he became deep in thought.
